Hey!
I just got DeMuDi up and running on my PC and was wondering where I could find the Zexy externals for Linux in addition to the pdp installs. Where's the best palce to put all my PD stuff in Linux? Also, are there any good resources that you've used to getting Linux to recognize usb devices (audio and otherwise)? I'm making the switch over to Linux because Pd (and many other things) in Windows sucks (lacks good video and other cool features). If any of you have pointers on PD in linux and what to look out for I'd be very appreciative.
Thanks! Phil

Hi Georg, the SNDOBJ and STK part of flext is really a black spot. I should work on it, but there are more pressing things to do. The SNDOBJ variable in config.txt should point to the source package, where header files and the built library are in subfolders. I think it doesn't work out of the box for a installed distro package yet.
best greetings, Thomas

c++filt _ZTI6SndObj typeinfo for SndObj --------8<------------
don't know what the problem should be ...
... maybe something in the config.txt:
--------8<------------ # where is the Sndobjs installation? # (uncomment the line with # to disable SNDOBJ

# please be sure to delete an eventual m_pd.h file
from the SNDOBJ

Also the headers of SndObj are not included to the
Include-Path, so
syncgrain fails to compile ...

If you are using Debian/DeMuDi, use the Debian packages to install
everything:
puredata pd-externals pd-zexy pd-pdp pd-pidip gem
Some are in sarge/stable, some in sid/unstable, some in experimental,
and some in personal repositories. I just posted on this topic, so
check the archives.

Thanks, Hans. I really just need the address or a link to the place(s) I can download from. I've been looking all over for the propper URLs and have come up with dead links and what appears to be outdated packages. The links from the main pure-data site to ZEXY show nothing and for PDP all folders are empty. is the most up to date version of the externals package from 2003 (avail at SF)? All else I've been able to find. If you could send me the full URL for to find those things I'd really appreciate it.
Best, Phil

thanks, al-ca, you say..

i have recently (last week) switched out ftp-server to a more secure software. there seem to be several problems with graphical ftp-clients, which i hope to fix in the near future. in the meanwhile, you can use any command-line ftp-client:
~> ftp ftp.iem.at Username: ftp Password: mindphone_divided[@]yahoo.com ftp> cd pd/Externals/ZEXY ftp> binary ftp> get zexy-unix-2.1.tgz ftp> quit ~> ls
the full URL for the current version of zexy would thus be ftp://ftp.iem.at/pd/Externals/ZEXY/zexy-unix-2.1.tgz
and yes, the pd-zexy debian-package by gÃŒnther is pretty uptodate (at least it has been updated more recently than the file you'll find on our ftp-server)

Why download, when you can get it with "apt-get"?
Just do "apt-get install PACKAGE" to install one of the packages, Hans mentioned. Or use "synaptic", which is a graphical tool for this.
If you want to have the latest and greates source code, it's all in the CVS at pure-data.sf.net. Just install cvs ("apt-get install cvs") and follow e.g. these instructions:

Hi Phil
You may want to look at http://usb-midi-fw.sourceforge.net/ for some
m-audio midi and audio devices. I think I've plugged in a couple of
usb audio devices to demudi (edirol ua-1x was one) and the computer
saw them and they worked without any fuss. For some time now, I've
found it easier to configure new hardware (excluding firewire) in
demudi than in windows.
