Ciao
yeee! great... i was waiting for this feature!
thanx

Me too... plan to start using it tonight :)
(For those of you who don't diff source code for your documentation, the outlet of "template" now sends a "change" message whenever a scalar is edited by hand.)

Would this apply to "struct" as well?
I'm going to start using this as of now. Every single one of these new features sounds like a big improvement.
Where it says "reblocking only works between powers of two", does that mean that a subpatch inside a subpatch blocked at 100 could only be blocked at 25, 50, 100, 200, etc?

i guess this is true if you manage to run your main patch at a blocksize of "100" (or another "power-of-2" multiple of 100); since the main block is fixed to power-of-2 values itself, it turns out that your subpatches must have sizes of "64", "128", ... (at least i haven't yet found a way to run pd-0.40 with blocksizes != 2^n)

I see, that does seem to be the case. So maybe the wording in the release notes means that blocks will still operate if told !=2^n block sizes, but only at ==2^n block sizes. I note that sending "set 17" sets block size to 32, whereas v. 0.39-2 prints an error and leaves block size at 64.
I also just noticed that a 64-element array showing elements 0 to 63 shows the last one outside the graph, but it does so in 0.39-2 as well. Strange I never noticed.
Probably it just doesn't work right yet. I haven't tried 17 yet :) The 64-element table bounds problem is longstanding, I hope to fix it someday.
cheers Miller

Hi Miller, the download link says "compiled for Macintosh OSX 10.4 (intel or ppc)" but "lipo -info pd" says: "Non-fat file: pd is architecture: i386" Won't run on ppc...
best greetings, Thomas

Damn... I thought they had made it as easy as "ld -arch i386 -arch ppc" but noooo... I'll have to go back and fondle the makefile.
thanks Miller

Compiling it on linux, I had to change '#include <s_stuff.c>' with '#include "s_stuff.c"' in s_audio_jack.c.
I know you don't use jack. :-)
Cheers,
c.

ola,
i've noticed that this new release breaks pdp, with the following error :
PDP INIT ERROR: pd symbol clash adding symbol pdp: new=f6fe1950 old=08c69358
and the corresponding code is this :
/* don't kill me for this one.. if the symbol is already defined and used, .. well, that's a problem but right now it seems a reasonable hack */
t_symbol *sret = dogensym(s->s_name, s); if (s != sret){ post("PDP INIT ERROR: pd symbol clash adding symbol %s: new=%08x old=%08x", s->s_name, s, sret); post("try loading pdp before other libraries");
of course, i load pdp before all other libraries..
puès, no time to fix it, just reporting.
saludos, sevy

And the first test version of DesireData 0.39.A should be there within a week. Here's some documentation from a user's perspective:

I browsed through this site and it shows amazing stuff. My question is: how can I test/use it? I'm on Windows and use pd 0.39-extended...
thanks,

I believe that Thomas Grill will soon publish DesireData for Windows and OSX, for a fee. (If I'm not too late about replying to his emails...)
Else, you could try to compile http://artengine.ca/desiredata/download/desiredata-0.39.A.pre1.tar.gz but this is a very unstable preview so don't expect to be able to do real work with it.

ola..
is it possible to disabling the printout these "realize $1-bla --> blublub-bla"-messages?
for debugging it is not in every case so handy because i have sometimes hundred of $-variables and im searching for a simple "print"..
but a feature like [r realize] in pd would perhaps be interesting, i dont know now for what yet.
cheers

since printing to the pd-window eats so much cpu-power, the realize-messages sometimes can be a waste of cpu. a disable-option would be nice.
