hi everyone ,
i jsut came across this little quirk of the route object . it seems to not send bangs to its left-most outlet when it is instantiated with no arguements . i wasnt sure if this was intentional in some way or if it maybe even was just my setup . i attached a patch to demostrate . oh yeah ... and i am using pd .35 test 19 incase this is the issue .
thanks .
joge .
hi joge,
indeed, Pd swallows bangs quite often, because if a class does not declare an explicit bang method, but handles lists, a bang is converted to an empty list. Thus, if bang is not expected, it is oftentimes ignored (but there are many special cases...)
I think this is not a route-specific problem, but, rather, the more general design choices would need to be made (see my post `playing hide and seek with the bangs' from 03/14/02).
btw, [route] is a synonym for [route 0].

interesting , i just read your post . i am sure i exactly follow it but i understand what you are generally saying .. when i can think a little bit , i will read read it . i noticed that you offered the patch for incorporation into pd , has miller added this in to pd yet ? or does he want the bang system to work how it does for some reason ...
hmmmm .. might be worth proposing a cvs system for the pd where updates can be submitted by any one in a systematic and timely manner ? not sure if this was talked about already .

thanks , good to know .

In the following link you should find a precompiled windows 'pd.dll' file aswell as the source code for implemented a complete 'Objects' menu bar in pd0.35(test 19). Simply click object, select object and place in window. I also added Frank Barknecht's pd icon to the main window, could'nt resist it! Thanks Frank! There are also a few screenshots that demonstrate what I mean. Try it out and let me know if ye find it usefull. I'm sure that the code will compile with pd0.35 test 19 for Linux no problem, I have just not got around to doing it yet! Hope ye enjoy. The instructions are also on the page. Next step, that unified library! How I hate to start that thread again!

btw, i had to place the icon in the folder from which i start pd, which is not the /bin-folder.
