Please test this build lots! If no one finds anything that needs
fixing, I am going to release this exact version:

There are some known bugs, but they are big and will have to wait for
the next release. Other than that, let's make sure there are no

Hi Hans as i'm surrounded by a kindof ubuntu farm atm i feeded it to ubuntu studio & kubuntu feisty & so far they've eaten it all without bleating. i also bottle-feeded it(the feisty release) to gutsy as he's in the back & he was complaining about missing libquicktime0 during the installation which is not due to my research not availiable for gutsy... salutis olsen

newer versions of debian (and therefore ubuntu) have replaced libquicktime0 (0.9.x) by libquicktime1 (1.0.x) most likely these are binary compatible and you could install the old package with an override-dependencies flag. (you might also have to symlink the /usr/lib/libquicktime.so.0 to /usr/lib/libquicktime.so)
but of course this is hackish and evil.

0.9.7 and 0.9.8 are definitely not binary-compatible with each other, although package systems allow upgrade from one to the other.
more generally, this is about versions < 0.9.8 vs >= 0.9.8.

Yeah, libquicktime went thru a spasm of API-breaking (and probably
ABI-breaking) changes on the path from 0.9 to 1.0. Most of the 0.9.x
versions are not compatible with each other.

my reply was rather generic. i haven't tried whether it actually works or not, nor did i care.
and true, i should have written "maybe these are binary compatible" instead of "most likely [...]"
i tried to avoid answers like "dude, compile it yourself" or "the only thing hans needs for getting gutsy packages is a gutsy machine. donations are welcome"

i never noticed this! i don't think i have changed a line of code in the quicktime4linux code of Gem for ages. to be precise, i haven't changed a line since August 2006, when there was 0.9.7 in debian. but then, i might have just been lucky and used the "right" functions...

Can you file a bug report on the gutsy gibbon issue? It should be
solvable.

Hiya,
It can load the web pages now but it 'locks up' pd while the browser window is open. I think you need to background it with '&' at the end of the command to launch the browser?
Here's the log :
while executing "exec sh -c [format "%s %s" $browser $filename]" (procedure "menu_openhtml" line 9) invoked from within
Thanks for you work!

Ok, found the bug and fixed it. When Pd launchs the browser directly
rather than with some kind of "open" command like gnome-open, it
needs to start it with an & so that Pd doesn't wait for it to finish.

this is really weird, I have no idea, where that problem could come from... if I use disk utilities to verify the file, it says,
Verify and Repair disk “Pd-extended” Checking HFS Plus volume. Checking Extents Overflow file. Checking Catalog file. Checking Catalog hierarchy. Checking volume bitmap. Checking volume information. The volume Pd-extended appears to be OK.
1 HFS volume checked No repairs were necessary
so the file seems to be ok, but then if I want to convert it I get unable to create... corrupt image. I am using firefox to download, but I also tried safari, and even curl. I got the file directly from hans, and then I could open it, but not the downloaded file from the server... marius.

Hans,
What would be helpful would be to find a changelog to see what bug fixes have been implemented on each test release - do you maintain something like this with pd extended? At a cursory glance I couldn't find one. Sorry if this has been asked before.

Hans,
What would be helpful would be to find a changelog to see what bug
fixes have been implemented on each test release - do you maintain
something like this with pd extended? At a cursory glance I
couldn't find one. Sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks! Kevin

Please test this build lots! If no one finds anything that needs fixing, I am going to release this exact version:

There are some known bugs, but they are big and will have to wait for the next release. Other than that, let's make sure there are no other outstanding issues.

One minor point: I don't know if this goes for other helpfiles, but clicking the all_about_hid bang/button in the hid help results in a 'No such file or directory' error. The abstraction is looking in extra/pddp, when the file all_about_hid.pd is actually in doc/5.reference.
