Hi I just compiled the recent version of GEM on downloaded from https://github.com/umlaeute/Gem and I followed the instructions on that page.
I am had to run the bash autogen.sh before of autoconfig, and more than this it happens that when I open pd-extended with the new GEM all pix_ objects seem ok except for [gemwin] !!! which does not exist. Or, if I do -path /.abstractions it exists but simply does not work.
I run pd-extended 0.43.4, with Xubuntu 14.04, 64 bit.
Thanks for any feedback Mick
hi,
you should tell ./configure script where pd resides to help it finding Gem's abstractions. just reconfigure with something : ./configure --with-pd=/usr/include/pd Of course, change the path according to where Pd-extended put the headers.
Also there is a discussion concerning this in the mailing list but I can't find it again now...

you need a path to both the abstractions (e.g. "./abstractions") *and* to the binaries (e.g. "."). since Pd does not add any of those automatically, you have to do so manually: $ pd -path ./abstractions:.
note however, that this is simply a hack to run Gem out of the build-tree. the *proper* way to use it would be: $ make install which installs everything to /usr/local/lib/pd/extra/Gem/

Hello, thanks a lot for your response!
Here's my feedback: the $ pd -path ./abstractions:. commando worked fine! I open the pd in the directory where I downloaded and installed the recent version of GEM, and it basically works fine. [gemwin] and vlc plugin are there and alive.
I just to want to add a couple of notes:
get the image but with the channels R and B inverted! This does not happen when I stream from my laptop to one of my collegue (he gets the correct colors). 2) About the $ make install I had already used that command (as I followed the instructions on the above mentioned site). Should I do it again?
My friend suggests that some eror might have occured when compiling the new GEM and I might have some libraries not correctly assigned. I hope I was clear enough...
Anyway thank you very much for all you do. Cheers

cool.
I just to want to add a couple of notes: 1) when I feed [pix_video] with a stream created in vlc on another laptop I get the image but with the channels R and B inverted! This does not happen when I stream from my laptop to one of my collegue (he gets the correct colors).
this sounds very much like a bug that has been reported as https://github.com/umlaeute/Gem/issues/56 and which i have fixed in commit 7eb6c057 (11th september).
is your checkout recent enough?
- About the $ make install I had already used that command (as I

once (after a successfull build) should be enough.
after doing "make install" you will have to use the path you installed to (rather than the path where you built Gem).
e.g. $ mkdir -p ~/src/ $ cd ~/src $ git clone https://github.com/umlaeute/Gem.git $ cd Gem $ ./autogen.sh && ./configure
$ make install DESTDIR=/tmp/Gem
$ cd ~
$ pd -path /tmp/Gem/usr/local/lib/pd/extra -lib Gem
so this boils down to: "make install" will assemble everything to run Gem in a single directory "somewhere else" (by default this is /usr/local/lib/pd/extra), but is settable, e.g. with the DESTDIR variable.
it does not magically turn your build-tree into a usable (as in "out-of-the-box") setup for running Gem.
if you have changed anything that involves recompilation, you have to do "make install" again.
My friend suggests that some eror might have occured when compiling the new GEM and I might have some libraries not correctly assigned.
if the build fails for whatever reason (e.g. when building some plugin you are not interested in anyhow), the "make instalL" will also fail, and also some convenience symlinks that allow you to use the "-path abstractions:." trick. since the latter seems to work for you, i don't think that this is the problem here.

Hi Johannes,
I get the bug of the inverted colors in version of Gem ver: 0.93.git 8032816
today I tried to compile the version taken from https://github.com/umlaeute/Gem
but I get this error:
... gemglxwindow.cpp:670:4: warning: #warning context-sharing disabled [-Wcpp] gemglxwindow.cpp: In member function 'virtual bool gemglxwindow::create()': gemglxwindow.cpp:707:35: error: 'snprintf' was not declared in this scope make[1]: *** [gemglxwindow_la-gemglxwindow.lo] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/mick/Documents/LabIO/gits/SonarX/Gem/src/Output' make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
Thank you, Mick
