Hi all.
I'm new to PD. Is this the right discussion list for MAC OS X?
I've just downloaded PD-0.38-4 RC8 extended from the Hans Steiner
website but i get different errors messages on startup. Furthermore
while browsing and trying the examples the application keeps
crashing. Here are the messages i get. Sorry for being such a newbie
but i'd like to have PD up and running.
Thanks.
Alf.

I¹m also running same version RC7, no probs...maybe a re-install is needed. Had a few problems with GEM here and there, but all has been solved by the list so far! -see archives.

I had similar experience with RC7. For fixes, some things need to be
stated as startup items in preferences. In the end, I found it easier
to download a different version of Pd and to use RC7 as a repository
of binaries.
Hope this helps -

Could you give some more detail on how to setup? I'll eventually
download Release 7.

what i ended up doing, was downloading (and compiling) a 0.39-2 from
mp's site. then i added libraries one at a time, gem, pipid, etc.
that helped me to understand how things work. this may not be a best
way to do it, but it worked for me. i think i also found that the RC7
plist was problematic but the RC6 plist (when used with RC7) was better.
I just downloaded RC8 and got just about the same thing. System is OSX 10.4.4:

Actually, RC7 gives me the same error. Had to go back to RC5 to get it working.
best, d.

OK, I copied the PDP stuff from the RC5 app to the RC8 app and everything works fine (at least for 5 min worth of testing!):
$ cd /Applications/ $ cp -rf Pd-0.38.4-extended-RC5.app/Contents/Resources/extra/pdp* Pd-0.38.4-extended-RC8.app/Contents/Resources/extra/
good luck, d.
PS...why do my mails takes half an hour or more to get to the list?
I should also mention that I'm using the org.puredata.pd.plist from RC8, copied to my /Library/Preferences folder.
I thought that maybe the PDP stuff from RC7, RC8 didn't work on OSX 10.4.x, but I saw from Jonathan Goodwin's post that it does. So I have no idea where the errors come from.

Ok, I uploaded a new RC8 for Mac with the PDP from RC5. I think this
is the final release, unless pdp breaks for someone. It works
everywhere I've tried it.

First, I have been running PDP on both ubuntu Breezy and Dapper and found the Logitech Pro 4000 USB2 webcam having strange video display hickups in the stream with both systems. The webcam worked great in other apps (vlc, mplayer, etc.) I fixed it in PDP by commenting out code in PDP as described in this link: http://lists.saillard.org/pipermail/pwc/2005-July/000487.html
It seems to me that some aspect of this change should be incorporated in the CVS.
Second, I am wondering how to get rid of the title bar for windows created in pdp. I managed to nuke it in Linux by using a window manager, specifically Devil's Pie: http://www.burtonini.com/blog/computers/devilspie
How might I get rid of the of the title bar when using OS X? IMHO, I think eliminating window title bars should be a built-in feature for PDP and I am curious why this hasn't been done yet. Is PDP still in active development? The code looks mostly from 2003...
Third, on ubuntu Dapper for some reason multiple webcams being displayed in multiple windows using PDP is breaking. When I create the first window displaying the webcam video, all is OK. When I attempt to open the second, unstead of a new window appearing, the first window stops updating. I then have to restart Pd to get any reasonable results. This is the case using either the pdp_xv or the pdp_glx objects. Multiple webcams in multiple instances of VLC is no problem.

John, list,
I wrote that post to the pwc list concerning getting PDP to work with pwc-based cameras. Glad it was of use to others. I agree that some aspect of this change should be made to the PDP source. Tom posted to this list about a month ago suggesting that he was going to do some more work on PDP. Hopefully he will catch this change for the next release.
Due to its CCD (rather than CMOS) sensor, the Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 gives an excellent quality picture. Now that Logitech have released a range of USB2 cameras, the 4000 can be picked up relatively cheaply so it would be excellent to have PDP supporting it "out of the box".

You can disable PDP, the library which is cause the problem, by
selecting Pd-0.38.4-extendedRC8.app and do Cmd-I, or "Get Info" on it.
In the Info panel, in the Plugins section, uncheck pdp.pd_darwin, and
then it won't try to load PDP anymore. You'll still get a short error
message in the Pd window, but it should be harmless.
