Does that change the font's character aspect ratio?
e.g. with nominal font size "10", each character is 6 by 13 with the pd-extended 0.42 that I have (dated before your change). is it still 6x13 now?

So, why wasn't it aliased? (i mean: symlinked)
anyhow pidip is still crying for Bitstream Vera on Pd startup:
Tk has a font alias (symlink) feature somewhere... it would help avoiding to have to make changes in externals, if ever that's a good idea.
