Another question: where is Guenter's rme-driver? Its not available at the address given in the docs.
Btw: is this still the most accurate way of using the hammerfall with PD (I am new to kernel2.4.x so excuse the questions)?
Thanks Michael

As it stands it is the best way if you want to have really low latency (mainly because nobody cleaned up the alsa code in pd yet).
The other (and a lot more flexible) solution is to use jack (jackit.sf.net) and pd (This works with the ALSA Hammerfall driver). And you have to take pd from the CVS, because jack support is not in the regular release yet.
Guenter
Thanks Michael

The 2.5 kernel, yes. The 2.4 kernel comes with my driver. So there is no need for download if you are running 2.4

Hi Guenter,
what is the given address ?
in /PD/DOC/1.MANUAL/x3.htm is written
RME 9652 (Hammerfall)
This is the best sound card out there; it costs around $500 and has 3 ADAT I/O ports and one SPDIF. There is a "baby hammerfall" also, which I think is the "9632." DO NOT CONFUSE THE 9652/9632 WITH OTHER RME BOARDS WHICH MIGHT NOT WORK WITH PD.
Guenter Geiger has an OSS driver for Hammerfall for 2.4 kernels (such as RedHat 7.1 and up). You have to download and compile it: http://gige.xdv.org/pages/rme .
You must then run Pd using the "-32bit' flag, because this uses a non-standard extension of OSS to 32 bit samples.
Greetings, Michael
hi i downloaded the devel_0_36 branch of the cvs and compiled it (without errors). when i start pd i get the following errors:
# ./pd Using noninterleaved mode Using noninterleaved mode Using ALSA interface Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: No protocol specified
Application initialization failed: this isn't a Tk applicationcouldn't connect to display ":0.0"
what did i do wrong? marius.
i suppose you started the x server and pd with different users.

I read:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: No protocol specified
Application initialization failed: this isn't a Tk applicationcouldn't connect to display ":0.0"
as suggested in the earlier answer, if you want to connect to an xserver that was started by another user the brute force method would be to run xhost + before starting the application, if this is via a remote login you might have to export your DISPLAY environment variable manually. look the manpage for xhost pls,

I'd recommend against doing this, as it disables all X access control.
Better is to run pd as the same user as started X :-)

If you're running via a remote login, use 'ssh -X', which will funnel X apps to your local server.
