Hello all,
In Miller's original documentation for the [line] object he states that the creation argument can be used to explicitly set the grain rate of [line]. However, it seems that the creation argument merely sets the initial value of [line] and has nothing at all to do with grain rate.
Question:
I know that MAX allows the grain rate to be set dynamically but that functionality doesn't seem to have been created in PD. Are there any plans to do so in the near future?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Dave Sabine
Question:
- How can the grain rate of [line] be set?
Hi Dave, the correct creation arguments are like this [line <startvalue> <grain>]. The default for grain is 20 (ms?).
- Is Miller's earlier documentation possibly wrong? or has the implementation of [line]'s creation argument changed since Miller wrote that document (version 0.27)?
I don't know but the above is what I found when looking at the code (x_time.c) from pd0.35 test23.
If you want to controll the step size between outputs rather than the interval you could use [step] from maxlib.

hi David,
the help patch for 'line' suggests so: ``In *this implementation* you can't set this dtnamically.'' I know nothing about Miller's plans, but a max-compatible version should at least find its way into the cyclone library (named 'Line', with uppercase 'L', like 'Append', and 'Clip', which are already there).
This will not happen in the near future, though, unless someone gives me some hints about how to provide the 'setclock' functionality...
Btw, this help patch (i.e. the description of line's arguments) is confusing -- it has been a subject on pd-list several times already...
