They install into the same dir, so you can't. You can always
reinstall 'puredata' later. Or build it from SVN.

Hey Tim,
It's included in the 0.41.4 release of Pd-extended.
ok thanks Hans,
I tried to install that version using the .deb package, but i get:
dpkg: considering removing puredata in favour of pd-extended ... dpkg: no, cannot proceed with removal of puredata (--auto- deconfigure will help): ubuntustudio-audio depends on puredata puredata is to be removed. dpkg: regarding .../Pd-0.41.4-extended-ubuntu-hardy-i386.deb
containing pd-extended: pd-extended conflicts with pd puredata provides pd and is installed. dpkg: error processing /home/tim/downloads/Pd-0.41.4-extended-ubuntu- hardy-i386.deb (--install): conflicting packages - not installing pd-extendedI prefer to keep my old version too for now... gr, Tim

Maybe the pd-extended package should "provide" "puredata" in the *.dsc file

It provides 'pd', like 'puredata'. The Debian packages should be
changed to have their own Debian style lib directories, i.e.:
puredata: /usr/lib/puredata pd-extended: /usr/lib/pd-extended

I guess, then this "audio" meta package should depend on "pd", not on "puredata", which could then be fullfilled with either "puredata" or "pd-extended" (but currently not both ...)

What's the 'audio' meta package? In general, packages should depend
on 'pd' unless they really need a specific version (vanilla, extended,
DD, etc.).

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

I was referring to Tim's offlist mail that you quoted, and I got the name wrong: It's called "ubuntustudio-audio". Tim's error was:
ubuntustudio-audio depends on puredata
so he couldn't install pd-extended, which "only" provides "pd". I assume that "ubuntustudio-audio" is a meta-package which in itself is empty, but it depends on a lot of useful audio packages, so they can be install in one command. If "upbuntustudio-audio" would depend on pd, not on puredata, than pd-extended and puredata both could provide "pd" and make ubuntustudio-audio as happy as a dog with two tails. :)

Couldn't have said it better myself. As a workaround, you can install
ubuntustudio-audio, then it'll install everything. Then you can "apt-
get remove ubuntustudio-audio puredata", then apt-get install pd-
extended" or however.
