hello list,
after I connected the new arduino diecimila with pd,some errors occured. arduino sends data (tx), but doesnt receive any...also tried it with various older versions of the arduino board...anybody had the same problem ?
greets, hank
which pd objects are you using for communication? did you select the correct serial port? are you using firmata? which version of it? on the other hand, diecimila is not really tested yet with Pd, so I assume there might be problems... marius.

hello marius, the serial port was correct, because with number 2 it was responding...arduino sends data but does not receive it... it was a pd patch which was working with gem. I was using using arduino.pd, arduinoControl.pd, gemmsp.pd and win.pd. sure I could send you the folder. pd_firmware v 1.29 ... so I run it with older versions of arduino boards.of course they could be broken... hank

hey henrik, did you have pd running with any arduino board before? which old boards did you try? did they also not work? are you on a mac? did you close all other programs, that might be conflicting with pd? the arduino environment, processing... on mac you also have to close the bluetooth connection to get it working. but, as I said it may also be a diecimila problem. marius.

hey marius, no it was my first dive into pd and arduino. yes I am on (intel) mac. it might be possible that other apps were still running, not processing but arduino. the bluetooth connection was sure open and not closed and sending data was sometimes active...

I think I have to get a diecimila and test with it, to see what's going on. sorry. marius.

ciao henrik
i am not quite sure, which one the ardiuno diecimila is (couldn't find any info about it), but there are some points, that could be checked anyway, when working with arduino:
software? (sorry, if that seems too obvious, but i experienced, that people sometimes didn't know that)
object, you are using?
software? in 'menu -> tools -> Microcontroller(MCU)' two are listed: Atmega8 and Atmega168. i think, the default setting is 'Atmega8', although newer boards come with a 'Atmega168' shipped. i experienced many times, that this was the culprit, since it is even possible to upload a firmware for the wrong chip.
output mode?
did you activate the inputs, so that they report anything?
please report any error and not just 'i had some errors'
what exactly did you do to trigger this errors?

i think, it would try to send data even with no usb connected, as long it has power. depends on what firmware is on it.
various older versions of the arduino board.
i suspect a software/firmware problem here. if you tried with other boards as well, you probabyl would also have had to upload the proper firmware first. did you do that?

Basicly it's the latest. There are info at the Arduino website [1].
One change that to my limited knowledge might be of interest, and
seam most significant, is:
"Rather then requiring a physical press of the reset button before an
upload, the Arduino Diecimila is designed in a way that allows it to
be reset by software running on a connected computer." -- [1].
Best, steffen

I also got my first Arduino now, and it's a Diecimila board. I couldn't upload anything to the board on my main machine, though, and at first thought it was broken, but then it worked fine on my laptop. Need to investigate this later.
I was told by my vendor, that one has to use the 0.9 Arduino software to upload, I didn't try any older version anyway.
I also didn't yet try Firmata, maybe I'll check it out next week, but as I need to control stepper motors, I might not be able to use Firmata anyways, I guess.
Hint for Debian users: The Debian instructions on arduino.cc are way out of date, follow the Ubuntu docs instead.
Autoreset is a nice feature, but on some boards it doesn't work, as they have the wrong firmware on it accidentally. See the FAQ. Thankfully it works for me.

I've got a Diecimila board and I had no problems running the latest
release of Pduino:
http://at.or.at/hans/pd/Pduino-0.3.1.zip
That in combo with Pd-extended 0.39.3, it should "just work"
