thanks for your help, but i am still at bit at lost. here is what i got. please correct me where i am wrong.
1:
put below into a text editor and save it as .pdrc
-path
/home/sonicvariable/pd-externals/cyclone:/home/sonicvariable/pd-externals/my_pd_externals
-lib zexy:cyclone
call it from the terminal as '~/.pdrc' i got 'permission denied' at this point, and am i calling it correct?

Correct, but better use no empty lines, I think.

You don't call the ~/.pdrc file at all!!
You just call the "pd"-binary as usual, pd looks, if there is a ~/.pdrc itself, and if it exists, Pd adds its content to the command line options.
