what linux distribution will work best for pd on mac?
(mine is a G4 cube, running os9 at the moment)
anyone got a link?
also, it's a long shot, but there's no way i can partition my mac hard drive without doing a full wipe, is there?

ubuntu goes ok, it is quite easy to install, but i havent managed yet to setup ALSA properly, i didnt try very hard so i am not sure how difficult this is. Pd was giving me some weird noises at some moments. www.ubuntu-linux.org

there are some commercial softwares to do this. google and youll find couple of them. I am not sure how good they are. I did a full wipe and it was really easy to do. the basic process is to start the computer with the mac intaller dvd on the drive and holding C down, then from the file menu you select to use the mac Disk utility. With it you create the partitions you need, then install OSX on one and later Linux in remaining ones. With ubuntu (and i biet with debian will be the same) I did partition my HD in two (one for osx and one for data) then left few megs of free space. Later when i installed Ubuntu i choose to install it automaticly in the free space, it did it quite well, all worked fine.
for more details ask in the ubuntu list

Hi Hardy (thats your name right?)!
I run debian on my pismo here, with pd and all the interesting stuff, since some weeks even my hdsp card works! So it might be worth checking out.
Afaik you will have to reinstall OS9 and OSX in order to resize the harddisk.
No solution to that yet....

yop, I have a pismo with a mandrake 10.1 PPC you could find the iso here : http://ftp.belnet.be/linux/mandrake/devel/iso/10.1/ppc/ I wrote an article (french, soon english...) to install it and run the different packages : http://joe.apo33.org/article.php3?id_article=24 Actually I could install from the softwares database : http://easyurpmi.zarb.org ardour, PD-38.x, rezound, audacity, with alsa 1.0.9rc and also good video software as cinelerra, lives and so on...
I test Debian few months ago, with a lot of problem to fix alsa... maybe now is better... I gonna test fedoraPPC... let'see...

the one you know best (I run debian for precisely that reason, and I don't have any problems so far)

there is, I did that on a mac mini recently but you need an os x box, make a rescue os x boot cd and put ipartition[0] on it and there you go.
but it might not work with os <10 anyway ...
