I have recently installed Debian Sarge on my old TiBook and it works perfectly (as much so as you can expect from a GNU/Linux system). Later I decided that I also needed OS X 10.4, installed it and afterwards setup yaboot to offer me a choice between the two systems. But if you have OS X already up and running you'd better have a spare partition or two for the GNU/Linux system as there is no way to resize existing MacOS partitions that I know of.
