Hi all,
I would like to make a small request for pd for linux, but I wanted to post to the list before putting it on the tracker as a bug or feature request - could it be made so that when you load a sample with soundfiler, the console window does not get the focus after loading the file? This is no small irritation when loading multiple samples, and if one is not running in verbose mode, there's not even any useful information provided by the console.
I am running ubuntu studio 7.04 with gnome/fluxbox. I know that the only message that comes back from a soundfiler load in verbose is that it was successful. Other messages, however, don't cause the console to get focus - they simply appear in the terminal in the background. Is there a workaround for this, or can it be addressed in the code? Was it done on purpose, perhaps?
I have tested this with 39-2 extended and Miller's 0.40-2, but perhaps the request could apply for all versions of pd on linux. This never seemed to be an issue on OS X when I was using that. I personally don't think the console should ever be forced to the front of the screen after startup, but should rather run quietly in the background, available for reference when it is called upon.
Thanks! k
Hello, it is not only happen under linux, but I don't know about osx. Let me propose a hack for replacing the cheesy [openpanel], it's a .wav file browser I've extracted specially for you from a large project I'm working on. Please let me know if you have errors, or suggestions, I might improve it for opening other kind of files, and make a tkinter version with pyext (it will display in -nogui mode).

The patch crashes my Pd. Tot (Toxy) has a tendency to do that :) Toxy sometimes clashes with Gem and cyclone (I do not remember the details, I just remember to stay away from it).
The pdmtl abstractions have multiple browser options. Here is one pictured in the top portion of this page: http://wiki.dataflow.ws/PdMtlAbstractions/Usage/Browsing
The pdmtl abstractions file browser can browse folders, display & highlight them, browse backwards, etc (like Yves [playlist] but for all operating systems). It can store an unlimited number of entries and is built with the externals found in Pd Extended.
The new version is coming out in a few days. But you can download the old version here (grab a tarball of pdmtl): https://devel.goto10.org/listing.php?repname=pdmtl&path=%2Ftrunk%2F&...

In the case if you want to have a sight, for lowering the frustration of not being able to use my patch with pd-extended, here is a screenshot:
http://megalego.free.fr/pd/soundbank/screenshot.PNG
The patch keeps tracks of added directories, so you don't waste your time about looking for sound folders several times, it's possible to drag'n'drop the soundfiles into other ix widgets, we can use the mousewheel for scrolling through lists of files and folders.

ah yeah, the pd-extended version of toxy (19th alpha) crashes pd indeed, the 15th from the developper site is clean, you just need to load [widget] before [tot] in your patch, by creating the first one before the second one. Anyway, toxy is a hack and has an uncertain future, so it might be wiser to develop widgets with the tkinter library that only requires the pyext external, and that doesn't use _widgetbehavior for a compatibility with desiredata.

Very nice!
