I'd like to get to pix_video to work under windows, but have had so far no luck with a Kodak USB DVC-265 webcam. What video devices are supported by pix_video? How about Organge Micro Ibot?
Thanks Ben
Hi Ben , I briefly tried pix_video under XP with a DV camera on firewire and didn't have any luck either. Not sure if you saw this in the GEM FAQ.
7.6) What is wrong with pix_video in WinNT? I haven't completely figured out how to get access to the video stream in WinNT. I'm using Video for Windows with a Connectix QuickCam, as well as an Intel Video Capture Card, and it seems to assume that you are only writing to a file or previewing into a window. Windows tries to take over the system and doesn't really provide any stable hooks (unlike IRIX). If anyone knows how to deal with this, please let me know.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?
Jim

firewire is not supported by the pix_video object. i hope i will make this work under linux soon and then proceed to the windos-version (though i have no idea where to find any documentation yet...but who knows ?)

pix_video uses the standard video-device of windows. usually drivers of "normal/simple" capture-cards (like bttv-cards...) declare themself as "video-devices" to windows. firewire-cards (like the pinnacle-dv500, for example) declare themself as something different (like "extraordinary excellent card for video-editing with firewire-support"), and thus are not known to windos-->gem as video-devices. so they can't be used :-( every card, that is listed under system_configuration->multimedia->audio_and_video_devices should be usable by gem
unfortunately i have no physical access to any usb-driven capture-cards, so it is hard for me to debug any problems..... ...any help is appreciated

I'm using a logitech USB quickcam, I tried several other devices but with no joy - i think it's to do with driver interaction and frame size compatability.
As I undestand, the device has to interact with standard windows video capture drivers. Also, the device seems to have to support a wide variety of frame sizes. you may have to feed pix_video some resize messages to get it to work. As many professional capture devices don't support more than a couple of framesizes (normally only 720x576 or stuff like that), they don't seem to work (for me, that is).
it did take me a while to get it working, but have since gigged it and was very reliable.
cheers mick
