Hi List,
I was wondering if it was possible to read streamed audio data from the internet (to make a webradio receiver for instance). Is this possible using netreceive? I don't think i've even ever created this object in a patch... I suppose the answer will depend on the format of the streamed data.
Any hint appreciated !
Cheers,
Pierre.
What about using [pdogg/oggamp~] or [unauthorized/mp3amp~]?

if you are using linux, you can use readanysf~ from august (in externals svn).
Ok, I'll try all three objects. Thank you for your replies !

Hi Pierre
Before you spend too much time figuring it out all by yourself:
[readanysf~] is still actively maintained and available in Debian and derivatives as 'pd-readanysf' (unfortunately, the version in Ubuntu 12.04 is currently broken). It's based on the gmerlin-avdec media decoding library and thus supports many formats, protocols, encodings.
[oggamp~] and [mp3amp~] both support each only one encoding over http, iirc. [oggamp~] hasn't been touched since 2004, the author of [mp3amp~] said he doesn't want to be involved with Pd development anymore. However, both [mp3amp~] and [oggamp~] are part of Pd-extended and run on win/linux/mac, while [readanysf~] is/does not.
If you happen to run Ubuntu 12.04 and want to test [readanysf~], I might be able to help out.

Hi Roman,
Thank you for these precisions. I intend to use Raspbian... No idea whether readanysf~ will work at all.

Indeed... I didn't think about the necessity of decoding the data before playing it in Pd at first. I'll test readanysf as soon asI get my Pi (and an internet connection).
Cheers,
Pierre.

[mp3amp~] doesn't seems to work on Ubuntu 12.04. Here it crashes Pd when connecting to a stream. It may be a difference between the headers located in unauthorized/ and a change in a library version (libmp3lame...) but I didn't manage to make it work when compiling against system headers as well. If it is working on someones'12.04 I'd gladly know!

[readanysf~] compiles pretty well, if you have the good library and modify the make file following your instructions: http://www.mail-archive.com/pd-list@iem.at/msg52180.html

It's been a while since I pushed any code to the Puredata repository. Are we using SVN still or have we moved to GIT?
Let me know and I'll commit the above makefile changes.

the big bunch of externals is still in svn. only puredata itself and a few externals (e.g. Gem) have moved to git.

hello August, IOhannes
why not using the same makefile for all platforms, by using pd-extended template, the actual makefile is only for osx and linux, and the makefile.win doesn't work anymore with recent versions of gcc.
I have a working dll of readanysf~ made last year, so it's quite possible to have this working on windows as well.

Sorry for taking so long to get to this.
Can you point me to instructions on how to use the pd-extended template? You mean this?: http://puredata.info/docs/developer/LibraryTemplate Libraries are the same thing as externals in pd-extended?
I assume the pd-extended makefile template also works in pd un-extended?
And, do you have instructions for how to build readanysf~ on windows? Do you also have DLL's to share? If so, we should put them up on my site and the puredata site.
-august.

https://pure-data.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/pure-data/trunk/externals/temp... and no, it doesn't have anything todo with "pd-extended", apart from the same people being involved (unless you think of "pd-extended" as everything in the sourceforge svn)
