Hi all!
I've used the quickcam pro 4000 with GEM with success but only with version 0.888r2 (on Windows). Since version 0.9 release pix_videoDS refuses to handle the Logitech video (didn't try any other webcam). On the contrary using OSX and 0.9 it still works fine.
Cheers Ivan

Hi Max, I recently saw a post on the PD list in which you had trouble getting a quickcam 4000 working with Gem. I'm having the same problem and was wondering if you got it to work. Thanks. Jim

Huh. I was about to write and say that it's worked fine for me in both Windows and Linux, but at this point that'd be lying. I've reinstalled Windows recently, and the newest PD installer from sourceforge. Now using the webcam crashes PD. Using windows XP Pro. Looks like I need to downgrade GEM :-(
However, I am positive it works fine in Linux w/ kernel 2.6.6 and the latest pwc and pwcx. There's a small problem with a glitch if the stream gets closed. If this happens, open a second terminal, modprobe pwcx out, modprobe pwc out, then modprobe them both back in, pwc first then pwcx and the glitch is gone. Very obnoxious. Sometimes if PD crashes the camera doesn't get closed and the next time I try to open it, with any program, the device is busy and can't open.
So I guess what I'm trying to say, is that I was about to say it works fine, but in reality it hardly works, and not at all well at that.

no, do upgrade ! the gem-0.90.1 windows-binary (available on http://gem.iem.at) should fix the crash-cam.

talking about pwc and pwcx modules, anyone knows the future of them or Quickcam under Linux in general in future kernels? Glad to see that both modules are available again but are there any alternatives being developed?
Cheers,
