hello.
I was testing the shell object.with this i can send unix commands (like in a terminal). the problem is that when i send any command the cpu is saturated until the 100% of activity and open a new (but hidden) pd task (sub-process). I can see it only in the activity monitor. what is wrong?
mac os-x 10.3 and pd 0.38-4

You could try [popen] which is named after the unix/php function.
Its similar to [shell].

I'm pretty sure that Carmen didn't have PHP in mind when he wrote [popen]... ;)
There's also os.popen in Python, IO.popen in Ruby, [popen] in Tcl.
