Hi folks, I'm working on cyclone/comment, the last object we need to update in cyclone, and I need help.
I haven't learned much (if any) when it comes to GUIs in Pd. I've tried all I could and I'm giving up, but I assume this must be so trivial and simple for a more experienced GUI coder out there. So I appreciate if anyone could help me out here.
here's the code https://github.com/porres/pd-cyclone/blob/master/cyclone_objects/binaries/co...
and one can always also just send us a PR in the repository ;)
thanks
The object is not visible in a GOP (graph on parent).
Unlike every other GUI object/external out there (and atom boxes or Pd's comment), it is not visible in a subpath with a GOP.
here's a test patch
cheers

I can only assume you're trying to load this object in purr data, if so, I have to say:
programming language. So no GUI object written for Pure Data in tcl/tk works in Purr Data. Not only that, but other objects that are seemingly not a GUI (that is, they're a regular object box) may use tcl/tk and won't work in Purr either.
not port [comment], so it isn't included, and this is why I'm assuming you tried this there. There are other objects from cyclone that haven't been fully ported either as they use tcl/tk. Moreover, cyclone is outdated in Purr Data, so any developments and code from my repository in the last 3 years are not part of Purr Data. And again, even if it was the case that this had been ported and updated in Purr, it uses a different language, so it wouldn't be the case.
Other than that, if you're in Vanilla or Extended, I can't think of anything in this universe that would explain why you have cyclone with [comment] not included but other with objects working...
cheers

There's no need to test it, it's been tested and it ain't visible inside a subpatch with GOP, no doubt about it. I just needed help in the code to figure out how to make it visible or what's wrong with it: https://github.com/porres/pd-cyclone/blob/master/cyclone_ objects/binaries/control/comment.c - a test patch makes more sense if you were trying to edit this code and see if it'd work after compiling it.
My best guess was to comment out line 455 - if (glist->gl_havewindow) - in the comment_vis method, but that wasn't it, and all the other attempts I did were more gratuitous guesses that led nowhere.
Still trying to figure it out though

Hey Alexandre,
Glad you got it sorted.
Hope you don't mind me saying... it's not good form to be dissing those offering assistance (esp. when asking for more help). Wouldn't have troubled you to just upload the object, and your responses came over a bit arsey to be honest (though am sure they weren't meant to be:).

Since 2019 I'm experiencing 30min delays when writing to this list. Normally I can see my message back in the list around 1 minute after sending it.
I can see that my messages are not appearing on the "Archives By Date" even if people that had reply to me are already "Archived", then 30min later when I receive my mail I re-check the archive and it appears there in the correct sequence (before the replies).
I suspect I'm not the only one experiencing this.

I've noticed that mails of others show up late in my inbox. Often I see replies to such an e-mail before I can read it. (maybe this happens when a mail is sent both to a personal address and the pd-list: the recipient receives the e-mail immediately but it shows up in the list only after some minutes). occasionally, I've witnessed e-mails to the pd-list getting delayed by hours. I don't know, though, if the problem is in the Pd-list server or in my e-mail server (GMX is crap).

I suspect I'm not the only one experiencing this.

definitely not.
we didn't really change anything on the mail infrastructure in the last few weeks.
however, we (the iem) are using greylisting to drastically reduce spam (that's on an intermediate mailserver, before the Pd-list mail server receives any email).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greylisting
the Pd related mailinglists have been protected by greylisting for years (so this is nothing new on our side).
greylisting can result in a delivery delay, which can get longer if the *sender* (in your case hotmail/outlook/microsoft)
greylisting is adaptive, so once the system learns that a given outgoing mailserver sends legitimate email from userA to userB, the greylisting step is skipped and the email gets through instantaneous.
one thing that might have happened, is that hotmail set up a bunch of new outgoing mailhosts at the beginning of 2019. thus our system has to re-learn the new hotmail servers and this might lead to the delayed delivery.
for what it is worth, the email i'm replying to has the following interesting headers (shortened the lines for readability):

which basically means (if you read it from bottom to top)
17:15:38GMT
which is a <3 minute delay, which i find quite acceptable.

Yes, sorry, my bad.
one thing that might have happened, is that hotmail set up a bunch of new outgoing mailhosts at the beginning of 2019. thus our system has to re-learn the new hotmail servers and this might lead to the delayed delivery.
That might explain my problem. Thanks for the explanation.
Hope my situation is back to normality soon.
I'll use this mail also as a test.
