am i missing something or is PD midi timing absolutely shit when using low latency audio drivers? in linux running jack even with a huge 8192 buffer pd can't hold a steady beat from a sequencer, and the same is true for ASIO under windows 2000. most other applications however manage just fine...
strange.
anybody got a solution other than -noaudio ?

I visited something similar when running under Jack with Pd's own timing finctions (metro,...). I didn't look into it much further, but Guenther, if you're reading this: Didn't you change the priority scheduling in Pd recently? Maybe now it's too low... Just guessing.

I don't think so. The bigger the jack buffer size the worse the timing (8192 is big) I do not know what the problem with ASIO is, but I think it can not be generalized in the way Jonathan did. The two have to be investigated separately. Is the timing bad with small jack buffers too ?

My understanding is that Pd only has MIDI influence audio on block boundaries.
That means if you want to do MIDI out at all, you need -noaudio to get any decent resolution.
Miller mumbled on this list about time-stamping MIDI events and making this better, but that was long ago...
