Hi,
I'm new to PD and currently use a windows based laptop for patching. Vista being around the corner I had a question: Is Vista compatible to PD? I've heard some nasty things about Vista, specially when you're dealing with the inboard security checks. This is a small article explaining the issue: http://news.com.com/FAQ+Vistas+strong,+new+antipiracy+protections/2100-1025_...
Do you think is safe to upgrade my system, has anyone done it?
Thanks, Sam

Another text on Vista "content protection" that is becoming famous quickly is this one: http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.txt But maybe this links would be more appropriate over on pd-ot.

I just talked to a trusted friend who beta-tested Vista and isn't particularly biased (he uses plenty of audio apps on win$) ... He did say to avoid installing Vista at the moment, especially for audio. Your performance would probably take a hit. I know this is slightly OT, but probably worth stating for the record, for PD users who might be considering it.
Of course, if someone had access, it might be interesting to try PD on Vista for a test, and report back. But for now it's not recommended for PD as far as I know.

Performance wise, I would suggest that no one upgrade an older machine to Vista, since it will be more taxing on your machine than XP or 2000. Since Pd can become quite a resource hog itself, there's no since in spreading those resources even thinner!
If you're buying a Vista machine that's better equipped to handle the OS, you'll probably have better luck. Nonetheless, I'd discourage any early adoption until a few months pass and we can better see what the OS is capable of. Who knows, it might be great, it might suck. Time will tell.
