Can i have line breaks in an gui objects name (label)? like for instance have a slider with label of 'negativeLINEBREAKfeedback' ? Something like a line break, carriage return.
-Andy
nope... the iemguis only display a symbol, and as AFAIK, symbols
cannot contain a linefeed. But it might be possible with some
strange trickery.

strange trickery.
if you consider using [makefilename] a "strange trickery", then yes.

i'm planning on using [sprintf] ([makefilename] is confusing to me)
something like this: [sprintf %f_%s] and instead of the underscore, i would like a line-break / line-feed (i don't really know what to call it) how would I get a line-feed instead of the underscore?
how do i make a linebreak character?

look it up in an ascii-table.
zmoelnig@umlautd:~/shad$ ascii LF ASCII 0/10 is decimal 010, hex 0a, octal 012, bits 00001010: called ^J, LF, NL Official name: Line Feed Other names: Newline, \n
zmoelnig@umlautd:~/shad$ ascii CR ASCII 0/13 is decimal 013, hex 0d, octal 015, bits 00001101: called ^M, CR Official name: Carriage Return C escape: '\r' Other names:
you can then use %c in [makefilename] to generate this character.
again, i don't know whether tit will work. most likely you will see a small rectangle instead of a line-break.

like this:

however, don't try to save a patch containing a iemgui with 'special' characters as spaces and/or line breaks in the label, it'll screw up your patch or at least the iemgui.

Your wonderful!
Thank you for a patch, I had no idea what I was supposed to do with the output from IOhannes email.
I have never used [list-l2s] or [list append] yet, so this is great.

In PureData, they will be displayed properly, but they won't be saveable. Any attempt to save it will destroy part of the properties of the object.
In DesireData, they are saveable, and they can be set through the properties dialogs, though a newline requires a paste because the field is single-line. Spaces and any special characters like {}#;, are directly supported.
