I am experimenting with GEM for the first time. I'm using OS X btw.
I'm trying to play back a saved video, e.g a .mov or AVI etc, into the GEM window.
But when I do so, the sound of the video plays back, but there is no picture
vid I play?!
Cheers, Jonathan
What CPU, video card, OS and GEM version are you using?

Should work fine.
Gem version is one that comes with PD Extended 0.38.4 RC7
I have no idea what version of GEM that contains or if it works at all. Try 0.90 from gem.iem.at which is the 'official supported' release.

How would I go about installing this without conflicting with the current version?...will it just overwrite it with the prefs file?

one option is to replace the Gem.pd_darwin from the pd-extended with the one from gem.iem.at
another (less destructive) method would be to make sure that the new Gem.pd_darwin is loaded before the pd-extended one (via the paths in the prefs-file)

Ok, I've looked at the prefs file, and the instructions to load GEM seem to be there. So I've found the GEM.pd darwin file to change with the one from gem.iem.at
I'm downloading: gem-0.90.0-OSX-G4-bin.tar.gz - I take it this is the right one?...although I can't find any mention of support for any Mac OS above 10.3...could having OS X 10.4 Tiger be the problem?

Big Thank you Iohannes!
Replacing the GEM.pd_darwin file worked great! Must be something wrong with the one that comes in that extended version I have!
Video plays back fine complete with sound now!
Jonathan
Hi Jonathan,
I think your set up sounds good but wondering about the patch.
Do you experience this problem with one of example patches or is this
one of your own?
If it's your own, I'd suggest sending it to the list so we can see if
there's something unusual about it.
