Yes :-(
I have frequently accidentally hit 'ctrl + W' instead of 'ctrl + E' but PD always warns you if you have unsaved changes.

But you still lose the state the patch was in, for example positions of sliders, values of variables, and contents of tables.

on windows at least there is a dialog which asks if you are sure you want to close without saving... if you dont get that dialog its definitely a bug, what version/os are you using?
