Hi list !
I've not find an answer to my sound problems, I hope I do not noise in the list
I am under DEMUDI 1.2.0 (friendly Xerver GNOME)and I've a lot of audio clics , and shit sounds !!
I . DIO errors : mine >> http://impala.utopia.free.fr/pd/doc/capture.png I've tried the see this problem into linux an pd forums, I've just found this : http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2001-02/001757.html
II. pure data version: Someone say that we have to change SETUP in JACK, don't use realtime, use "jackd" instead of "jackstart", maybe change PEriods/Buffer to 4. But always this shit sounds ! So someone says that it's a problem of version of pure data, because I haven't this sound in other audio application like freeebirth. I did : apt-get update + apt-get install pure data I've now the pd 0.38.4 version.
III. WITH JACK : I've changed the Period/Buffer to 4, the XRUNS callback are not so many now ... It's softer (because when Period/buffer was 2, Xruns were infinite increased). When i launch pd in the work space number 1 (It's KDE Xserver graphic), the sound is interrupted a lot of time, and when I go to the next workspace (with pd on the first one) the sound is smoother.
IV. WITH ALSA: The sound is interrupted less but it's the same shit sound. when I select the next workspace, I've A CORRECT FINE SOUND !!!! But I need to start the computer atomatically whitout keyboards, so I want a correct sound
Is it a problem of GNOME, ALSA, pd ?And in the both case when the mouse scroll over a windows, it CLICKS ! Could you help me ?
Thanks
hi,
i'm using pd on linux. here's some infos about it:
xruns and glitches is part of pd (on linux, i don't know about other setup). i'm using gentoo with kernel 2.6.12 running jackd in realtime mode (44100, 2, 128 audiobuf) this is with realtime-lsm (module to get realtime mode to users). now for pd, i'm using pd-devel-0.38.4 from cvs with the new -cb_scheduler option. it works very well, i mean no more glitches cause by the GUI, but it's a little bit unstable (connecting pd -> other software = timeout). also, some externals doesn't like devel (like fluid~). so if you want to give it a try (you don't need to make install to try it):
:: PD-DEVEL 0.38.4 :: cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/pure-data co -r devel_0_38 pd cd pd ./bootstrap ./configure --enable-lockfree --enable-newhash --enable-jack --enable-simd - -enable-optimize=pentium4 --enable-threadedsf --enable-atomic
:: PD-EXTERNALS CVS :: cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/pure-data co externals cd externals/build scons scons install
:: CONFIGURING PD :: File -> Startup... -rt -jack -cb_scheduler
give us some feedback if you try it. patrick
