Yves, Olaf, ppl,
just wanted to step in and say I'm having still having some probs, found some minor bugs in both *cast~ externals... got the mono working on one machine but not the other. but, in principle they both work great. at the moment i'm working in a temporary setting...ill try to send some bug reports later this week. personaly, i think it would be cool to somehow bring the two together....but repetition also has its advantages.
if anyone is interested, we (norbert math and myself) are putting it to good use at http://alien.mur.at/radiotopia
direct link to the pd/flash app at http://http://195.3.99.130/radiotopia
if anyone is interested in taking part...please contatct me august@alien.mur.at or norbert n@alien.mur.at. We have a pd machine here sitting on top of a large collection of sound files that have been uploaded to our database from various individuals. for example, if you have a patch you'd like to set to run over the files , we could download it to our machine and play it from here. Or if you'd like a half-hour or hour sesion controling the machine from remote (via OSC)....etc.
open for suggestions.
best - august.

you must not have the same version of *cast~ or of the lame mibrary running on those machine.

no, we won't make the way backwards, we really disagree on some features like a fast switch feature ( no buffering ) for *amp~.

hear it at the (((NOMUSIC))) festival ( http://www.noweb.org/nomusic/index.html# ) , as well as "MultistreamR RMX" ( our radio cut-ups project ).

(i disconnect and sent a different mount point in a different connect message and it reconnects to the last stream)
it says:
Can't step back 511! mpg123: Can't rewind stream by 350 bits!

i guess it's mp3amp~ here, could you send me the urls you used ?? ( we did that a lot without any problems )
- it sometimes just will not connect
it says:

mp3amp~ too ? i've seen this too. unfortunately, lame library seems to be in a wrong state when we try to reconnect. i can try to dig into this one.

yes it is mp3amp~
i further played with it and it seemed like it connects to the last stream if it gets a connect message to a stream that does not exist (i had a typo in the connect).
normal reconnect now works fine, yet if you happen to try to connect to a stream that does not exist you get the wrong stream connection.
[ problem with command line is i used both in same patch to know if my system works, so i was not always sure from wich part the error came ]
- it sometimes just will not connect
it says:

well best is i test again tomorrow. but the only working way for me is to reopen the patch (or just do something else to re-create the mp3* externals)
but i have to say, that it is great stuff, your externals _
best wishes martin

i must make this caveat public :
fails to connect, decodes in a looping mode or crashes, unfortunately these errors are located in the decoding library ( mpglib ) and i am still looking for one that really runs smoothly.
i'm afraid there's not much i can do about it. i'll try to fix it but that's a tough matter.
next,
sevy/yves

no no - you do not need to hack mpglib for me. it is just good to know, when and where it hangs.

hi,
i've got some more clues after a bit of debug....
the decoding failure after the reconnection seems to be dued to some remaining bits in the decoder but there's not API to clean this up.
fortunately, when you feed the decoder with new frames, it will "resync the bitstream" after a while. the problem is that the decoder will be useless until it decides to take this action.
so, better wait for a while after a reconnection to see if it recovers.
cheer,
sevy/yves
