Hi,
I need a little help to install pd and gem on OSX. I've installed the Adam T. Lindsay Pd version (http://homepage.mac.com/atl/pd/installers.html) is that the right one or should I move to the last 0.37 version ? I would like to run gem but I don't know how to. I've downloaded the gem version from this place : http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/wa/default?user=tigital&a...
but I don't know where to put the gem-darwin library file and how to run it with pd. any help would be useful !
thanks,
Gilbert
Hi Gilbert,
The up to date Gem pd_darwin is at:
http://taproot.dyndns.org/~cgc/downloads/index.html
The easiest way to do it is use LML:
www.ekran.org/ben/research/lml
Then just put your Gem.pd_darwin where you want (home directory is good) and configure lml so it knows where to find it.
Add Gem to your "selected libs" and then run launch.
Note that these CVS binaries do not include help files.

My latest Pd Installer for OS X includes GEM, but the help patches
aren't working properly in 0.37 yet, so most objects don't have help in
that install. You can get it here:
http://www.pure-data.org/Members/hans .
If you want to try to stick that gem binary into your current install,
you need to put the Gem.pd_darwin in one of these folders, depending
on your install ( I might be off a bit, I don't remember entirely where
Adam's installer put the files):
/usr/local/pd/extra
/usr/local/pd/lib/extra
/Library/Pd/Externals
Then, in order to get Pd to load Gem, you need to have a file in your
home folder called .pdrc and in that file you'll need to add the line:
-lib Gem
or if you start Pd from the command line, you can type: pd -lib Gem
You might have to install some other libraries as well to get GEM
running. You can see what GEM needs by the error messages it spits out
when starting Pd.
