can anybody tell me about actual performances that have taken place
using pd to do synthesis or to integrate live audio with live/pre-recorded video and/or graphics? i just want to get an idea of what's already been done with pd.
happy valentines day!

i think your question is too general - they happen every day.

Hello all,
I just got some video documentation of my BFA thesis project online. Its an interactive new media installation. Uses PD/GEM for graphics rendering MAX/SoftVNS for tracking, and a number of tcl/tk servers for weather data aquisition and data archiving. Everything communicates over tcp/ip. Developed under linux. The system is realtime.

people are doing stuff every day in dozens of coutries with pd and its associated libraries... its really exciting :)
these guys use framestein (http://framestein.org) for their video stuff, and i'd imagine pd for the sound:
very cool stuf IMHO

hey,
is there any artists or professionals that use pd and/or
framestein or GEM in actual recordings, performances or industry?
i'm trying to understand the scope of it's use and what kind of
people use it primarily. i'm tempted to think that only REALLY tech-savvy people are into it because it seems inaccessable to purely artist-type people. any info is appreaciated!

over in pd-dev this is _exactly what we are discussing right now. i'm very much pushing GEM toward being a much easier to use tool for artists. i have to agree that GEM has a long way to go in this respect, but we are getting there (albeit slowly). thanks for posting your impression, it helps the developers out a lot!
any others who have similar or counter views on the subject of GEM's accessibility and usability please chime in.
thanks cgc

maybe i dont understand how you define "artist" because i just sent you a link to some working artists using pd/framestein. there are tons of real working artists using this stuff. here's another one (one of my favorites) :
its a permanent sound sculpture installation in vienna... i havn't had a chacne to see it in person, but you can listen to a live audio stream on their site.
i made an installation using pd for a burningman sculpture last year (dont have a website yet).
my brother and i did a sound installation for an event in a 130 year old abandoned subway tunnel a few months ago.

its definitely for the tech savvy, i'm not sure it will ever not be. it is a media programming language afterall. i'm sure as time progresses we will see things built with pd meant to be used by the less tech savvy.
