Hi list, i have a rather basic question (which has most likely already been answered).
Sending a message to an object, are all textual elements converted into symbols (and supposedly stored by pd for future recognition)? - and if, is there a way to avoid that? In other words, can text be passed to an object without being processed by pd?
thanks, Thomas

no, there is no string type in Pd, ...

the trick could be for a sending object to convert string address (or safer -- an offset) to a float (never tried that).

Hi Thomas,
I would suggest passing strings as lists of numbers from 1 to 255.

Hi Miller, do you see a chance to introduce some kind of string or raw data handling into pd? I think this will be useful in a lot of cases where external data is processed.
