Hey list,
I found myself on Wikipedia today inspecting "our" site for Pd. I made some changes, added some info and uploaded a screenshot of a patch I happened to have open at the time. The screenshot before was
Heheh, good how yr dnb patch has only two tempos - that is so very dnb.
also has capability to upload PD (as in Public Domain) sound samples up, though it's hard to know where to start with Pd. Also, is there
My favorite very 'pd sound' is made with a really simple patch:
[hslider] | [mtof] | [osc~] | [dac~]
Set the constraints of the slider to be between 127 and 200, and then fiddle the hslider around randomly. There are many interesting modulations up there. It fits nicely with a quote that Miller once made about how users will always do unpredictable things like play sounds at frequencies greater than the base sample rate.
anything like a list of actual performing artists who use Pd either live or in studio? I'm sure several on this list are worthy of mention...
Not sure about worthy of mention, but I write lots of music with Pd.
Thanks for yr work on the page.
Chris.

Hi,
I've compiled Gem without the mpeg support but PD crashes (closes) with segmentation fault as soon as I try to create a gemwin-object...
Is this a known problem?
Any help is welcome,

Hallo!
I've compiled Gem without the mpeg support but PD crashes (closes) with segmentation fault as soon as I try to create a gemwin-object...
Is this a known problem?
hm - I don't think so ...
could you give more detailed debug information (system, OS, console output, ...) ? and if you are on linux maybe also a gdb backtrace ?

mmmmh...
...so the system is a Linux 2.6.11-10mdk kernel with a NV11 GeForce2 MX graphics card, X-Window version 6.8.2. The console only says:
pd-gui: pd process exited Segmentation fault
The "glxgears"-example works fine!

oh, i have misunderstood your email: pd/Gem is not crashing when you create a gem-window but when you create the object [gemwin].
can you do a backtrace with gdb? #> gdb pd % run -lib Gem (now create [gemwin] and watch it crash...) % bt
did the compilation process made any problems?

So here 's what I get from dbg:
Starting program: /home/schmidje/pd-0.39-1/bin/pd -lib Gem [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] [New Thread -1208133248 (LWP 13861)] Detaching after fork from child process 13864.
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. [Switching to Thread -1208133248 (LWP 13861)] 0x423cc150 in glClearColor () from /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1 (gdb) Quit
Compilation was fine, exept that I don't have gltt installed but used ftgl with freetype 2 instead.

the only thing that comes to my mind is, that openGL is not working at all on your machine.
can you run "glxgears"? (i don't think so)
which drivers are you using? which X-server (version), which distro, which hardware,...
if you are using nvidia's proprietary drivers, then you _must_ have installed the kernel-module ("nvidia"), the xserver-module ("nvidia"), and the GL-bindings ("libglx"; on debian, there is a separate package nvidia-glx)
