Hi, I have installed pdp, and I have tried the patch of example: /pure-data/externals/pdp/doc/introduction/quicktime.pd I have loaded a movie (14 Mg) and all has worked perfectly.
After I have installed pidip I reopen the same patch and if the libs (pdp/pidip) are both loaded when I load the same movie and try to start it PD close with this error message: Segmentation fault socket receive error: Connection reset by peer (104)
I run jackd -d alsa and pd -jack -rt
What I have mistaken ? Apologize if it is a basic question.

hi,
the fact that you load pidip is not really the reason, libquicktime produces various and random crashes and that's why we will get rid of it soon ( we will recommend using theora files in next version )..
there's not so much to do about these quicktime crashes, i tried several versions of it and it's getting worse everyday.
so, i suggest you wait next version.
suerte, sevy

by the way, i send here this patch that uses only pdp ( and you need playlist too ) that will crash pd, for sure.
and the crashes are located in libquicktime.
enjoy! sevy

mmm...
it's running for 15 minutes now no crashes
pdp 0.12.3 pidip 0.12.14 libquicktime-0.9.2_pre1
tested with a folder loaded with 30 sec clips generated by pdp_rec~ (jpg/twos)
by the way, i send here this patch that uses only pdp ( and you need playlist too ) that will crash pd, for sure.
sorry, here are the facts from long-testing period :
a/ the best libquicktime is still the 0.9.1, but it has big memory leaks, especially if you switch your movies very fast. after a while, of course, it will crash
b/ the newest libquicktime ( 0.9.2, 0.9.3 ) will crash earlier
c/ you still have the alternative to play movies with pdp_live~ ( mpeg, avi ) but this object need some enhancements ( autoplay, frame seeking, .. ) that i'm doing right now.
d/ in the long run, it would be better to do a native theora reader ( using libtheora ), hoping that this will work better ( and anyway, we'll get a better support for it ).
of course, any help is appreciated to help us improving this situation.
saludos, sevy

Apologize, it is a very nice alternative ! (I had not seen it because the name "live" did not make to think to a file reader object)
Many thanks

ok indeed pd just died in my arms after 1h45 running 4 instances of this patch and directories with a lot of movies ... eating all the available memory until nothing left then ... rip...

Hi,
I have used (me seems) one good version.
I have made many long tests before write, The crashs dont are randomly, they happen with precision.
I also was discouraged in considre to use quicktime in linux, but when I have tried pdp with libquicktime (libquicktime from CVS 17-jul-2004) I am remained a lot positively impressed. It work very well (it is comparable at "movie" object in apple max/msp).
bye
