Hello list, and a happy new year!
I'm working on a little sampler at the time and I need some good (and free) piano samples in wav or aiff format.
The ideal would be samples in minor third intervals with at least 3 different dynamic instances(e.g. pp-mf-ff) for each note.
Has anyone a suggestion???
I only found some soundfonts on the Internet. Does anyone know a way to extract the samples from a soundfont?
Thanks

hm ... don't know ...
But there is also the fluidsynth external for pd (it's called fluid, by frank barknecht) with that you can play the soundfonts in pd.
And here some free soundfonts:
Free and quite natural-sounding to my ears, from http://www.pianosounds.com/freesoundfont.htm
- TrachtmanSteinC_XFade2_2001Aug16.sf2
$5 US, by far the most "hi-fi" of the three, but a bit bright for my taste, also it's recorded a bit lower so you'll need to increase the output volume. from http://www.pianosounds.com/
- NS_Piano.sf2
Free, has pleasant tone, if a bit lacking in the bass and treble; also the stereo image is very narrow, almost mono. the creator describes it as "a natural, woody, mellow sounding piano", from http://www.naturalstudio.co.uk/ns_piano.html
(from the linux audio list - there was a quite similar thread in december !)

You can try cdxtract. I've used it to rip samples off akai cd's but i
think you can also rip the wav files off .sf2's
http://www.cdxtract.com/cdxtract.php
unfortunately is not free.

There are some high quality instrument samples here, including a piano, which I haven't tried, but it probably has at least the dynamics and pitches you want. Seems to be down at the moment, though.

Thank you all for the information guys.
Sorry for the delayed reply...
Since soundfonts was not what I needed I went with Ben's suggestion.

The recording could be better, I guess I should be thankful being able to have these for free though!
After trimming the samples, total size is reduced to about 320 MB which will be just fine with my 1 GB memory (hopefully..)
Thanks again, have fun!
