Hi all,
Anyone got any advice on how to make sounds similar to the basses in this excerpt from Nightwalker - Rolling Through [NWR005]?

Really stinky wet fart noises.
Thanks,
Ring modulation! (\cymbal splash)
Quasi-periodic clusters of unidirectional parabolic pulses with a cylindrical formant having having a center frequency inversely proportional to peak pulse amplitude. Narrowing the pulse width and increasing the cluster density adds more juicyness.
Subverting the VOSIM algorithm should yield some results.
(seriously) - actually farts are very complex and a bit difficult to synthesise accurately.

my guess...
for the wave generation, use a buzzy sawtooth (or maybe square wave?) and modify the pitch of the oscillator with an envelope.
then,
use a 'wetfilter'
it's basically a spectrum of bandpass filters each attached to a delay line. the lower frequencies have a shorter delay and then the higher frequencies get delayed more and more. (or it might be the other way round,,,,lower freq's delayed more, higher freq's delayed less...i can't remember exactly)
did you try to sample what it sounds like? I got similar sounds also from recordings in a wash basin using empty plastic bottles or hands, or mouth sounds (like trumpet blowing, but under water). or really try to rebuilt it synthetically, probably two amplitude modulated waveshaped signals. would be nice to see synthetic solutions for it. marius.

I think physical modeling might hold some answers. And as always, lots of research can't but help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatulence
Lots of things to consider there.

Here is a kind of artistic modeling: http://www.incipitblog.com/index.php/2005/08/01/serge-gainsbourg-evguenie-so...
you better listen to the MP3 than smell it!
Lots of things to consider there.

... among these especially the amazing flatulist Le Pétomane/Joseph Pujol: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_P%C3%A9tomane He was a huge star in his time and some even believe, part of Sigmund Freud's theories was influenced by Freud seeing (hearing, smelling?) Le Pétomane's performances.
Le Grande Le Pétomane was a great synthesizer himself, who besides various instruments like the tuba also managed to bringe the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906 to life again using his behind!

Hello!
Here is another fine example, featuring pitch control.

Oh man, that brought tears to my eyes (as I'm sure a live performance would also do)!

LMAO, the squits at the end are hilarious.
Okay, good waveform to analyse in that mp3
So, going at it literally...
Quartic rise, underdamped resonance on top of a linear return on the negative half-cycle.
Faking the resonance with a cosine at a+N * Fc and making N a function of amplitude.
Try messing with the offset A for more wetness.

I wonder, would a bandpass help to get a good duck sound? I mean the crying baby fart, like "wwwwwaa!". I hear a few good ones in there. I'm guessing that, as the abdominal muscles tighten, more pressure is applied to the sphincter, causing it to relax and generate a lower tone. But at the same time it sounds like there's a formant getting higher, to go from "oo" as in "spoon" to "a" as in "bad".
