Thanks to everyone for replying, i'll try that midi loopback device tomorrow, it can really save me! I'm into sequencing via Rosegarden and linux doesn't seem to have many synths, so I guess I'll be making my own in PD.

Well, it's a pretty good initiative and I encourage you to do so but looking at http://www.linux-sound.org/swss.html shows me that there are more than a handful of softsynths of various kinds that run in linux.
