Let's keep this on the list, I don't have a Intel Mac, so others will
be more helpful with this.
Sounds like you should file a bug report in the tracker.

Also, I forgot to mention, have you tried other versions, like 0.40.2?

Just downloaded Pd version 0.40-2 from millers page. No issues with the delread and write with this one.

Strange... AFAIK, no changes were made to that code for
Pd-0.39.2extended. But now that I think about it, in test7 I was
experimenting with compiler optimizations, particularly adding SSE
support, and auto-vectorization. Maybe someone with an Intel Mac
could try compiling Pd-0.39.2-extended-test7 without the compiler
optimizations. They are listed in packages/darwin_app/Makefile:
# Mac/Intels only run 10.4, so always gcc 4.x
ifeq ($(TARGET_PLATFORM),i386)
OPT_CFLAGS = -march=pentium4 -msse2 -mfpmath=sse
-ftree-vectorize -ftree-vectorizer-verbose=2
endif
My guess is that the problem lies either with -mfpmath=sse (do
floating point math with SSE) or the -ftree-vectorize (automatically
vectorize compatibile loops).

I'd do that. I just need to know a few things (or re-know them).
I'd like to build the core of the Pd-extended, that is without
externals, docs etc, and I guess the 'darwin_app_core' target in
packages/darwin_app/Makefile does just that.
That is, if I do:
I'll have an .app bundle with the Pd core application but with the Pd- extended patches applied?
If that's right, what version of Pd do i need/checkout?

The packages are included in the release branch, so its:
cvs co -r branch-v0-39-2-extended pd cvs co -r branch-v0-39-2-extended packages cd packages/darwin_app make darwin_app_core

Hmm. All four combinations:
work (that is delread/delwrite does work), when i do as described above.
Note that i didn't 'make patch_pd' as it was not described and as i
think they'd be in the brached code.
(I'm trying to upload the builds right now if anyone are interested)
