Hi!
I did a complete reinstallation of my gentoo box, but pd failed to compile -- no matter which version i tried. So, are there any hints? Does it depend on the gcc version? I use kernel 2.6 with alsa, any known problems? Has anyone else managed to install it on gentoo?
any help appreciated and tell me, if i you want any details, Harald
hey harald,
i have no problems running gentoo + k.2.6 + pd.. you'll need to be bit more specific about the nature of your problem though.. what are yr error messages etc --> if you cant catch them in emerge, go into /var/tmp/pd-version/work/pd-version/ and run make manually..
ciao

Hi Harald,
I was having issues compiling on two new gentoo installations, I did two different fixes and they both worked. My pd compilation was failing when it tried to compile expr~, is that where yours fails? Here are the two fixes I used:
Apparently having a variable named "exp" is not standard C since it shadows a c library function (exp in cmath). So there were a few places that used "exp" (make sure you change the function definition /and/ the body of the function where it is used.
HTH, Gabe

yes, that will be the problem -- i read about the "funny" error concerning the alsa flag, but not about this. but i don't want to downgrade either ... ;)
well, thanks, now i know that i'm not alone and will fix the variable names - and hopefully in the next release.

Hi Harald,
I am not using 2.6 yet, but I found that PD would not make with the USE="alsa" flag enabled.
try:
#export USE="-alsa" #emerge -pv pd [to check what other USE flags are enabled for it] #emerge pd
and let me know what it does. could be related to this funny "--enable-alsa" compiler flag which actually *disables* alsa. when will they get that fixed?
