Yeah. It has a lot of potential. At share we had a workshop and it was demo'd there. Very responsive, and a lot of possibilities.. the lack of pressure / velocity information is kind of a letdown as is the pricetag..., but otherwise it was very very impressive.
I think we are going to try to put the video online from the workshop. Ill be happy to post a link to the video when we do.

hello,
i quickly tried one. my point of view is that :
- sensing the finger are surprisingly fast : it look like you can play
percussion on it.
- I like the physical point of view for the movement of fader or other
objects. :-)
- I really like the possibility to change the layout of the gui while
playing
- no haptic feedback (of course)
- no pressure information
- max velocity of the fader in not so fast.
(i hope this limitation could be change in future upgrade)
i don't think you'll ever be able to have the gui of your software in this device, but a custum made gui. it work a bit like gripd (you build your gui and then connect to the software) but for any OSC software environement.
image and surface quality are ok, good manufacturing quality. it's very cool. (and expensive)

There has been some discussion on the Max and LAD lists. I remember the following points:
- multi finger touch seems to be robust with little lateny - very
responsive
- the gui has several elements (maybe enough for many application),
but is not really freely programmable
- the prize is breathtaking: about 2500$
the funny thing is that none of the people taking part in the discussions actually owned one, but there seems to have been a number of presentations - also in course of PrutalDruth Berlin, as i was told. Maybe some Berliner can elaborate... A friend of mine was working closely with the Tactex company to try to
get them to make a useful musical controller using Tactex. Ultimately,
they decided that they didn't want to spend the money to do what needed
to done to make Tactex a good musical controller. Its got a couple of
key problems: very low refresh rate (i.e. latency), something like 50
Hz; and it can't detect two points of pressure closer than about 2cm.
He wrote a paper about the instrument he built using Tactex:

There seems to be some trouble with Tactex, didn't was Midiman/MAudio about to release a controler with several Tactex elements and dropped that? Also wasn't it planned to be used in the Moog Voyager but then they dropped that too and used another product?
