Even better would be to get the MinGW fixes into the Gem build system
so that the whole thing can be built from source in one go. The noncvs
hack is hopefully temporary while we get everything building smoothly.

AFAIK, Gem is built using a standard configure/make setup. So it would
just be a matter of tweaking the configure.in and makefile.in for
MinGW. MinGW is quite close to Linux in terms of building, so it
probably wouldn't take much, mostly likely just some -I and -L paths,
and maybe some Windows-specific -l library flags.

hi hans, hi johannes,
oh i would love that! (but i am booting into w32 so seldomly that i don't think i will get it running on my own). so thoralf ?
It's on my to-do-list, but with a rather low priority. It's something I'm working on on-and-off. Unfortunately, it's a bit more than just fixing up paths to headers and libs. The main things are:
through with this.
with mingw. gem (on win) depends on these when it comes to directshow-stuff (namely, opening movies and getting pictures from frameservers). I did this once when I built gem with dev-c++, so this _should_ be relatively easy to accomplish.
makefile (or/and) scons configuration. I could definitely need some help here, since I'm not very familiar with this stuff (and don't want to dive too deep into it :-) ).
Unfortunately, I won't be able to work on this during the next - well, two weeks at least (gotta work on my thesis, pay my rent, tvjt, there is a performance, etc). But it's on my agenda.
with kind regards, thoralf.

- get gems dependencies to build with mingw. I'm

Well, I am currently working on a Windows port of [hid], so I am
working with DirectX and MinGW. I haven't gotten it going yet, any
tips or docs?

Here's a little tidbit to spur you on: you can cross-compile for MinGW
from Linux. Then you wouldn't have to touch Windows to make Window
binaries.

well i know that and i do it for iemmatrix on a regular basis. (still have to figure out what keeps zexy from being properly built though) however i was a bit afraid of all the dependencies of Gem (esp. DirectShow and Quicktime4Win) however, if it works that would be really nice!

The zexy objects compile fine on MinGW using the individual objects
build. Check externals/build/win/makefile
