is there a way to combine two strings (in messages) to one example: msg hello_ msg world
i want -> msg hello_world
or is there a way to eval $1 expressions in strings: obj 10 10 r receive$1 has the result :r receive$1 but i need :r receive{0-9}*
is there a way to get this result?

hi,
you need zexy's "makesymbol"- object for this. you have to pack the items into a list to make it work correctly. see the help-patch

"makefilename" does the trick
z.B.
[2] | | [makefilename receive%d] | | (obj 10 10 r $1)
this should create "r receive2"

You still have the add2 command in message boxes that comes with the pd package. I assume it is not as handy as zexy' s object but...

mainly because it doesn't do the trick,
[add2 bar ( | [foo_ (
will become [foo_ bar ( we want [foo_bar (

personally i do not use zexy's [makesymbol] (which would normally just be a question of taste, but - hey - i have written it...) i prefer [makefilename] for simple things, and [list2symbol] (zexy).
btw. i have just updated the CVS of zexy, to make the separator of [list2symbol] user definable. The second inlet eats a symbol, which is used for combining strings. by default it is a space ' '. But you can set it to whatever you want, even to *nothing* (just send it an empty symbol)
please someone (Juvu ? does framestein still depends on list2symbol ?) test it under windows.

this reminds because its the inverse operation of list2symbol, is there anything like a split (as in regexp) object anywhere?
i recently added one to cxc because i couldn find one.

there is [makesymbol] in zexy[0] that will do what you want see attached patch

[0] either in the cvs -> http://pure-data.sf.net/ or -> ftp://ftp.iem.at/pd/Externals/ZEXY/
There's also [makefilename] that comes with Pd.
