had to reinstall my laptop recently. unfortunately there were some issues with the pwc driver since then. i followed the instructions mentioned in pwcx-9.0/ patched the kernel (2.4.25) and made the modules. camstream ist working. but pdp pdp_v4l is complaining. (tested with 0.12.4 & 0.13.0)
any ideas? (i saw that olsen had the same problem half a year ago, but his thread died..)

PWCX is dead! Long live PWC!
Amongst much drama pwcx was booted out of the kernel because it hooks to a closed source driver for decompression. There is now an open, fully featured, and easy to install driver at http://www.saillard.org/linux/pwc/
Try it out, and rock on. -Ian

It does work very well, indeed! :-) I bought my Logitech webcam last year, but I was a bit ashamed, because I knew about the proprietary component in the driver. The webcam offering was very bad last year, and it's much better now. There's even a driver for this very cute Creative notebook webcam: http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?product=629 http://feanor.sssup.it/~pj/linux/creative_webcam_notebook.html -- Marc
Hello list,
I'll require a webcam in the next few days to do a presentation where there's no bttv grabber board available - but it neets to be relatively cheap and easy to run from something like knoppix or dynabolic ( since the university won't allow me to compile programs or load kernel drivers )t and all they have to offer next is windows based or macintosh( no experience with those and pdp on that platform ) any recommendations here? I looked for the notebook ones but the're not really cheap and too new to be running of a stock kernel :(
