Hi,
I would like to control Ableton Live 10 Intro with Pd 0.50.2 on macos.
On Pd I set the Midi Devices "IAC Driver IAC Bus 1" as input and "2" as output. On Ableton I set "ADVANCE" as "Control Surface" with "IAC Driver IAC Bus 2" as input and "1" as output.
So far, [noteout] works as expected, but [ctlout] only works when an instrument/effect is focused on Ableton, and assigning values is not consistent since every Ableton effect/instrument has a different setup.
Since I don't have external controllers, I imagine that one can use the "midi map" function in Ableton to assign any [ctlout] message as one would with a midi controller. However, I cannot seem to accomplish this.
I have been using [midiin] to check within Pd the values that correspond to knobs and other stuff in Ableton, but there seems to be only a limited amount of things I have access to from Pd (e.g. I cannot change focus from Pd)
Has anyone tried any of this? Are there any other solutions for controlling Ableton with Pd? Is midi the right way to go?
Cheers,

Hi Fede,
Mostly all parameters that you change with the mouse in Ableton Live can be assigned to a MIDI Controller. Just right-click on any knob and select "Edit MIDI map". Then just send some [ctlout] from Pd and that controller (say midichannel 1 controller 1) will be auto-mapped to that Ableton knob. You can also use other Pd MIDI out objects as well.

Hi Lucas,
Yes, that is what I thought would happen. I have done midi mapping with an external controller before. However, I cannot do the same with Pd. My guess is that I dont get the correct [ctlout]'s 2nd inlet value because each control surface (template?) that ableton works with seems to have different values set for that. I can keep guessing which control surface would be more encompassing, but that's as far as I know regarding control surfaces, and it will take me a lot of time to do that I guess.

In my setup I use a Virtual loopback MIDI named "loopMIDI". Here's a screenshot :

Note that the "Remote" button must be "On" for your "virtual-driver".

I never used any "control surface (template?)" and I think you don't need to emulate one. You just create the custom one you need (with "Edit MIDI map") on each Ableton project.
