or lash out on a $35 wolfson card if you need stereo in and out plus more, and want to avoid the usb.
certainly the Raspberries are cheaper than the Udoo, even with this card included ... but 3+ x the price of a Raspberry does get you a lot more computing power (4 much faster CPU cores plus an Arduino Due core with all the analogue and digital IO exposed and internally connected ... and the GPUs have openCL available and much more comprehensive documentation if you want to use them at a very raw level). There are much better peripherals included if you need that. Not sure yet how the audio noise compares between the wolfson, plain raspberry and udoo but will test and report eventually

Anybody played with the new Raspberry Pi model? It claims to haveimproved

Haven't got mine delivered yet (it is on the way) but looking at the (minimal) schematics provided so far they have improved the power .. the miniUSB has gone up from 1.1 amps to 2 amps with a regulator added. Also the whole is said to draw significantly less power (why???) .. so other things have changed also. The USB/Ethernet hub has been changed to the 4-out version of the same chip, maybe this version is also better in other ways? I don't know if this hub is the problem for usb, or if the problem is the usb out of the main chip ... if the model A (without this hub) does better with usb audio cards than model B then the problem is here, but I have not got a model A to test with.
The board layout is completely new, so it might also be cleaner for audio? I will test noise and latency when it gets here.
I ordered one the other day, so I'll definitely test it, too. (I've never played with an RPI before, so I'll probably doing some general playing around before getting to Pd specifically.)
I have just received 2 wolfson audio cards, which use the digital PCM link (rather than usb) and also expose another PCM link on a header plus a clock input (to the Pi header). They are quite flexible as far as clocking goes so several Pis could run these and share a single clock source (and pass digital audio between them), so I'll be testing that. It mounts onto the B-rev2 using the digital PCM on the 8 holes near the main 26 pin breakout. The B+ adds more GPIOs to a 40 pin breakout instead which include this stereo PCM link (and several others ... the clock, PWM and most of the digital interfaces can now be used simultaneously) but the digital audio is on different GPIOs so there will need to be some patching and some leads made up to use it on the B+. Unfortunately the wolfson card does not bring out the balanced audio pins from the chip (it has multiple DAC/ADCs) but instead it connects built in stereo mics, 2W amplified outputs and such.

They are good value and compact, but rather limited compared to units that cost a bit more. I've done a few projects, they are probably most useful for video playback and working with GPIO input, the wolfson card may make them good for stereo audio also ... but the access to the GPU is fairly closed and I've struggled to get them to do what I want, kind of got there ... certainly playing a single HD video with sound through hdmi is good, 3D mapping is possible, also alpha overlays ... but it is still very much custom per project at the moment for me. Playing HD is very much at the limit of what they can do and requires a lot of tweaking and compromises depending on what is wanted each time. They can do more at lower resolutions. Documentation beyond the sample code is limited. The GPIO stuff has some nice libraries and works well.
Sometime later this year I'll have something more generalised and usable that I can share, but for now it really is too messy.

It is included in Pd extended normally. You can use Pd-ext or its readanysf~ binary if you use Pd vanilla 32 bits 0.43+ n
