...yves: can I have cvs access to pidip, too? :-)
jamie
no!! i'm sorry....
now, all the code for gem2pdp is broken for linux users, i'm sorry, to me, OSX is just a side platform, we're speaking about open-source here and i have a lot of friends that have linux on their MACS.
the point is, if you submit code without having testing it on linux, it's a nonono..... lack of respect for real workers. i asked you _many_ times to send me your code so that i can check it myself AND YOU NEVER DID...
i don't even know if i can call it open-source....
sorry, that's definitively NO...
if some smart guy give you the access to cvs, ok, then cvs will be a dead shit to me...
maybe you think you're open-source, but think you have to collaborate more.
it's not personal, jamie, we'll have a beer sometimes...
best, sevy

...actually, in this case, only pdp2gem was changed, so gem2pdp is just as broken as it was...and as I mentioned in the last email, even this was probably fixed in my last commit...
i'm sorry, to me, OSX is just a side platform,

we're speaking about open-source here and i have a lot of friends that have linux on their MACS.

the point is, if you submit code without having testing it on linux, it's a nonono..... lack of respect for real workers.
...Really, this is just farcical that you imagine that all changes checked in are to be tested so widely...that's quite against the idea of collaboration as I see it...and I think your way off the mark in assuming what I respect, or am for that matter...?
i asked you _many_ times to send me your code so that i can check it myself AND YOU NEVER DID...
...oh, I did send you the code, and I assumed that you had looked at it when you gave IOhannes the ok (when you were recently in graz) to give me cvs access...but I guess that assumption was way wrong, oh well...
i don't even know if i can call it open-source....
...uh, why not? It's source code out in the open, and not even using any osx specific code? I certainly hope you aren't using any closed source graphics drivers, that'd be thorny...
sorry, that's definitively NO...
if some smart guy give you the access to cvs, ok, then cvs will be a dead shit to me...
maybe you think you're open-source, but think you have to collaborate more.
...I think you should think more before attacking people who ARE trying to collaborate...and I think my track record is about as "open-source" as it gets...

sorry, i might loose some bits of memory, but you just sent me a link to you site without much explanation and _not_ the right gem to make it work or test it.
it's also true i was quite busy and didn't have much time to dig into it. ( don't forget FADAIAT 2 : http://www.fadaiat.net )

...yeh, good dialogue there: point/counterpoint, I like...it's generally understood that cvs head (or as some people say, "top of tree") is potentially unstable...it's a simple matter to regress to the previous version, and I think you miss the point of collaboration; that is, "people working together on a single project"...

c´mon, you can even admit your modifications are poorly documented, poorly tested and just don't work, yeh, i'm not loosing time anymore on this ( but you crashed some stuff in cvs, for sure ).
if anyone put it to work, let me know.

actually it is not. after having had problems with both gem2pdp & pdp2gem (for a very long time: when i first tried the bridge some months (was it years?) ago it was very crashy. when i tried it out yesterday, it instantly crashed (either on loading or on creating an object)
when i tried it out to today it crashed too, until i deleted my .pdrc-file (nothing special in there: "-rt -lib Gem -open /tmp/nonexistantfile.pd") and now it works like a charm...
i do not think it is correct to accuse jamie of fukcing up the code.
if some smart guy give you the access to cvs, ok, then cvs will be a dead shit to me...
i guess you are referring to me ? actually this is the very reason why i first asked you whether it would be ok if i add jamie to the gem2pdp-developpers. may i remember you, that your answer was positive ?
all the best

there are really mysteries in life, i don't think this enlight anyone here and is not even a serious explanation.
and, furthermore, it still crashes here and i don't have any .pdrc.

not his, just to _not_ test it on linux.

sorry, i must say i don't have the latest update from jamie, this could be a more serious explanation.
but i'm not on my machine now and can't test it.
anyway, the test should be made _before_ comittimg, and you totally miss the debate if you think i want to keep privileged access, there are some contributors in pidip but we work the right way ( test before comitting )
and ciao, that's enough of this.

Yves, do you test on OSX before commiting?
Just checking.

that's explicitely unfair for i always mention when objects are available or not for osx and put binary releases for osx on my site too.
and, no, i cannot always test on such a machine for there are _none_ here, and i cannot install osx on my pc.
you don't see the difference ? well, forget about it.

Yves and all
i am sorry i thought there was an effort to get PiDiP working on osx so i periodically tried to see if they would work. There is some really nice stuff for artists to try and collaboration seems to be a way to unite these two ideas. I realize you are a linux person, but there are osx instructions on the site regarding how to attempt to get PiDip to work, so i tried and it became obvious rather quickly that both projects might benefit from exchange. I am not a programmer per se but see the potential for really nice art to come from it.
hope you are all well. cheers~

hmm, i perfectly well test all my libraries/externals (but very few (i think: 1) which are windoze only) on linux (debian), as this is where i do them, and still there have been bugs that would stop them to build on linux(fedora)...
i don't think that you test every piece of code you write on debian/redhat/fedora/slackware/suse/ubuntu/caldera/freebsd/openbsd/... even though you have the possibility to install each single one of these on your hardware.
you don't see the difference ?
actually this i think is the strength of CVS: a single person doesn't have to support all platforms, but in a collaborational effort everyone can test and fix on their personal preferred platform: et voila, finally we have a product that runs "everywhere" perfectly.
CVS is mainly about developing and not about releasing.
