Hello list!
I know this toppic was discussed in the list, but i didn't found it. So I'll ask it again:
is there an external that I can load the sample slower and get no tropouts? Else I'll try to write one.
put off. Then when I select something and close the window I can hear the sound again. Is this normal? (I use pd0.37 on WinXP)
Thank for any advice!

Hmm, strange, there should be volumes of info on this topic, since its been discussing at length more than once.
- If I load an audio-file in an array I get audio tropouts. So my
question, is there an external that I can load the sample slower and get no tropouts? Else I'll try to write one.
I use [readsf~] for playing samples directly. Its threaded, so it does the opening of the soundfile in the background. I don't know if anyone has a method of loading an array with a soundfile without a click, but I am not the expert.

- If I load a sample with the [openpanel] the sound I currently
play is put off. Then when I select something and close the window I can hear the sound again. Is this normal? (I use pd0.37 on WinXP)
Thank for any advice!

this is normal. it does the same sort of thing when you right click and wait a while before choosing between properties/open/help (as long as there is some reasonable cpu usage going on). Miller kindly said he'd fix this one for the next release, but I don't know if the openpanel is intended in this. you're unlikely to be browsing your hard drive during a performance anyhow??! else u might consider yves' playlist object (1-click file chooser)

Hi all
This is a realy an anoying problem that makes it impossible to dynamicly loading soundfile in PD. I would be realy happy if its solve. I guess this is due to the fact that PD is not multi threaded.
I use to solve the problem by preloading all soundfiles that is needed. This will eat a lot of memory and in the worst case you will get swapping problems instead.

This has been addressed previously. Most recently under the topic "load a wav file -> dsp turning off ????"... check pd-list archives at pd.iem.at. I posted a hack that usually works for me*, but it's still frustrating that this even happens, especially during a performance!
I know [readanysf~] was supposed to tackle this, but I haven't used it. Anyone have experience with that?
I notice the openpanel problem only with MMIO. Using ASIO there is no drop.

readanysf~ doesn't load sounds into arrays, so if you need them there you're out of luck, but in general I love readanysf~

readanysf~ is very convenient if you are dealing with different compressed file formats. I normally prefer to convert my sound data into an uncompressed format before, and then using the builtin sounfile reader, which saves you some CPU cycles which are otherwise needed for decompression. If I need varyspeed I use sfread~ from ggee. Of course, in some situations you cannot do that (e.g. on windows). I think Olaf made a port of sfread~ for windows (although this might have been a rewrite rather).

Hallo!
Thank you for your advices, but readsf~ (and etc.) doesn't work, because the data in an array. I'll try to write such an object myself!
One question about yves' playlist object: has anyone compiled this for windows?
Thanks, LG Georg
