i haven't used csound for a while, and i lost track of the various available (un)official linux versions, but i heard istvan dicontinued development on csound? is there a csound version i can download and work with? what's the status of icsound?
have other csounders used csound~ lately?

it's available at
http://www.cs.tu-berlin.de/~kerstens/pub
and probably at orm's site, too.
i'm willing to iron out any problems with up-to-date csound versions, please send bug reports!
<sk>
I used csound~ recently with and Istvan build and it worked, though sometimes if the csound process ended I couldn't start another csound process. And I would have to restart PD before getting csound~ to function again.
But when I did get it working it pretty darn cool. If you'd like I can do some testing with it for you and send you bug reports.
And because I'm not sure I ever said so, thanks very much for creating the object!

I read:

I guess that happened yesterday but he stated he might still work on hisr version and spread the updates privately

last time I checked it worked fine, less opcodes but externals that include an OSC opcode and a jack output driver.

I will do some further testing and report my findings
BTW what's this sclang file in your download section ?
thanks,

What seems to be happening to me is what always seems to happen to to ex-Csound developers. Istvan will get more and more frustrated with the restrictive license and closed-circuit dev community, start coding on Pd instead, find the community and license much more progressive and Csound will lose yet another awesome developer. Ah well. C'est la vie.

The OSC external was a port of code by Stefan. The jack driver is by Gerard van Dogen Gilcher.
As I'm posting to jackit-devel I'm not working on iCsound at the moment. I received few messages from people willing to work on it but nothing happened.
Currently, given the kind of musical activity I'm focused on, my need for a batch synth is really small. When I'll get back on it, I'll have to re-consider a large number of issues.
So whatever I'd say on the future of iCsound would be basically random.
I'm sorry but I can't do anything better now.
