hi list,
how do i randomly select a different soundfile from a bunch of available soundfiles to load for the [readsf~] object on a arriving bang?
thanks
you could create messages using makefilename or simply use the playlist object from yves if you don't want to rename all your audio files.

I read:

I made an example of this for some students a while ago, attached.

Another (more complicated, but also much more flexible) solution would be to use the presets in my rradical patches. For example rrad.minipli is a simple sample player. You can prepare a rrad.minipli to use different soundfiles in different presets, then send a
[rand X] | [/patchid/preset $1( |
message to a [rrad.minipli /patchid] object to change to another preset, and thus play another soundfile. This way you would not be forced to use consistenly numbered soundfile names.
Rradical patches are all available in the CVS.
