Hey all,
Since there is the serious GUI bug with Pd 0.41, including Pd-extended
0.41.4, I think it would be good to start the release process for Pd-
extended 0.42 now. If you are planning on adding a library to Pd-
extended (pdmtl?), or making substantial changes (pdp+cv?), then we
should coordinate to make sure that stuff goes smoothly.
This is the wiki page for tracking what has changed and what needs
doing for the next release. Please add things that need doing, and
anything that has changed.

Getting this done sooner also means that Pd-extended can be merged
with the pd-gui-rewrite code sooner. :D

"add 'books' section to help browser for the books" - please what do we exactly mean here? Andras

add a section titled "books" to the help-browser that either directly or indirectly links to (HTML/PDF versions of) the available books (those outdated paperwasting dust catchers) on/about/with Pd (e.g. "theory and techniques of electronic music", "bang", "designing sound", "loadbang",...)

I was thinking of adding clickable links to the Pd books:

Alrite, 'books' sounded a bit alien not only because real books are offline but also because they cost money, so linking them is almost advertising. While i actually have no objections against stuffing the help menu with all kinds of interesting items i can see more fantasy in integrating those online sources with a help search function. Then it could also look up Youtube videos, pd-list messages, whatsoever.

Yes, I think we can add all sorts of resources there. The idea is to
make all the resources more findable. That means doing it right, not
just dumping a bunch of stuff there, which is more or less what has
happened in the past ;)

I come from the year 2078 to tell you that real books are a purpose and not a device. A book is a convenient unit of a large amount of text. Virtual books are not virtual, because their purpose is real, and so is their usefulness. And electronic books are not electronic, because fileformats never cared about electrons. And regardless of the money that they cost or that they don't, books can be quite priceless.

Books play an important role in my life too. So do women, so i want the address & phone no of chicks with pd on the help menu ;o) Seriously my point was not that books are uncool but 1) you cannot access them by clicking through 2) we may not want to link to non-free resources. But again, i don't object i just brought these aspects up. I welcome all fun stuff in my help menu, up to the available screen height.

almost ignoring your slightly sexist statement, i would like to point you to the fact that most books on/with/about pd until now are available for free (as in beer, if this is what you care about). apart from that it might have occured to one or the other, that all those willing hands that make Pd what it currently is have to eat and make their living. i guess writing (and selling!) books on pd is not necessarily the worst way. the annoyance factor of a menu-entry called "books" is pretty low for me (given that it is a passive link you have to actively choose and anybody who understands the meaining of "book" will probably understand that when they click on it they _might_ be directed to pay service)
really, i am a FLOSS enthusiast, but people wanting everything for gratis piss me off this morning.
apart from all of that, i suggest creating a submenu "shameless advertisement" where we can put the "books" into.

You have convinced me, books make sense in the Help menu. As for sexism, yes i am, but i am really sorry for having shown it off on the list. Sleep deprivation, et cetera.
Andras

yeh i had to reply to this, as i made a war about sexism here...
so, no, girls are not a cattle that you have to chase and track down their numbers, just go and speak to them, they're not different from you, not less monsters, nor less freaks..
