but wouldn't that have weird effects when the signal you are attempting to remove the feedback from is the sound of you whistling?? Or is this method the one that many feedback supressors use? I thought it was something like mimicking the effect of constantly moving the mic around so that the frequencies at which the system is unstable actually move around, done via slow variable delays or something like that. Thats just a guess though.
well, ofcourse a feedback suppressor would effect the sound. just as any noise/click or whatever suppressor also filters some of the wanted sound.
Perhaps I'm smoking crack, but I seem to remember from the music-dsp list that you can just drop the pitch of the input sound a few Hertz to get rid of feedback. In a digital system this is easily accomplished by lowering the sample rate slightly right after sampling.
Let's hope i'm not spreading lies and dissemination.

hmmm if you lower the sampling rate for playback while recording in a live situation you'll end up terribly out of sync, if you lower the pitch after you've finshed recording with all the feedback you'll simply lower the feedback's pitch aswell.
or do I smoke weird things ?

Are you sure that if you lower the pitch you'll lower the feedback pitch? In my mind lowering the input pitch means that the output pitch can never constructively resonate with the input pitch, and hence no feedback will arise.
