Hi, in the other thread (*"Damaged Error" With 0.48 Test 2 Compiled For Mac*), there was a discussion whether Pd would have problems in the new macOS. Here's a quote from Dan Wilcox on that thread:
If that's true, we need to fix the font & object sizing issues in 8.5+ as
it looks
like 8.4 will no longer work in 10.13+. I imagine it's because they are
finally
deprecating the Carbon framework...
Anyway, I just tested it and it works. I also asked if Pd Extended could stop working, and tested that as well, it does still work.
Thought I'd just share the info
cheers
well, I thought I had updated, but I was wrong, will test again...
sorry

Since this is a new thread and all, I’m curious to broaden the definition of “works.” The biggest change that I’m aware of (and I’m only marginally aware of these things) is the switch to a new file system for most (but not all) Macs. Does your install use the new APFS file system, and have you by chance also tested audio file reads/writes with Pd?
I’m only curious since audio developers Propellerheads put out a sort of horror story warning that using 10.13 with older versions of their software could potentially corrupt user files made with their software: https://www.propellerheads.se/support/news/propellerhead-products-and-macos-...
Cheers, Kevin

I figured all of them did use APFS... how do I check this? I tested it on an old macbook air if that helps... and no, I haven't tested file reads/writes.

Yeah, well, there's always a bunch of horror stories that suddenly NO SOFTWARE or Driver works anymore in EVERY OS upgrade... so I'm really curious how and why Pd Extended ALWAYS survives :)
cheers

I would imagine that Disk Utility would provide some identifying information, but meanwhile it seems that the only drives that don’t get converted to APFS are Apple’s “Fusion Drives,” which are some combination of SSD and rotating platter.
Thanks for checking, Kevin
well, I have no fusion drives ;)

Ok, so I checked around, seems like Carbon has been deprecated since 2008 with Mac OS Lion, it hasn't got any update since then, but it is still around... and it doesn't seem it'll be completely removed so soon, huh?
Just curious and wondering what are the risks Pd Extended will stop working anytime in the near future... so this is one, what are the others?
cheers
